I know that course selection is very important for college admission and i have a slight conflict in my schedual for my senior year. Because of other classes that I want to take I have to decide between AP World and AP English Lit because of limited number of class periods offered at my school (both classes occur at the same time and i cant be in two places at once). Will colleges perfer one class over the other? And if so, which one?

AP English lit is a much more popular exam. It depends partly on what field you want to go into. If you want to go into history, AP world will obviously look better. If I were you, I would just take AP World and then find a couple books on the AP Lit reading list and read them in your free time so that you can take the AP test and you will have material to write on for the free response section. The AP lit multiple choice is pretty easy, almost like an SAT verbal section. All you need is some novels to write on for the free response and you'll be fine. The novels you read your junior or sophomore years in high school would probably even suffice. You'd be best off taking the AP World course and taking AP English Lit AP test self-study.

To the contrary, AP World is EXTREMELY easy to self-study for. Much moreso than English Lit. English Lit is generally considered harder than AP World, so colleges would like that more. Of course, I personally prefer taking the AP World class because it's far more interesting to debate history than Literature.

have you taken ap Euro? my suggestion would be to take AP lit as a class and self-study World. I think the AP Lit class and test will carry more weight.

I would suggest taking AP Lit over World, unless you are interested in the history field. AP Lit is much more "universal" -- it's a literature class, so it's considered basic (but that's not bad). Have you taken AP Language yet? If you have, you might want to consider taking World and either skipping out on Lit (some schools will only accept one), or self studying, which may be easier with the Language experience.

Do you have a preference for a particular teacher or subject material?

maybe i should clarify my position. i need to take english 12th grade and a world class 12th grade in order to graduate. due to schedualing conflicts i cannot take both on the ap level. i was wondering if the more selective schools had a preference of one over the other. i would take one ap and the other honors. because i am a senior, my score doesnt matter too much in college admissions.

in that case, I would take AP english lit -- no question. I think you will get more from the rigor of that course and it will benefit you more in the long run.
