Course selections and placement tests?

So, I haven't chosen my courses yet, and I'm kinda nervous about the placement tests I have to take. How were they? For those of you who's already take it, are the math tests hard, as in, harder than the SSAT? Are the questions kind of similar or totally different? And for the languages, can you choose more than 2 languages if you want, if you're willing to take no credit for one of them? And how hard are the language tests? For example, if you've only taken a language for 1-2 years, would you be able to complete it? I know these are an awful lot of questions, but I really am nervous!!! If you have any comments at all, please post them here. Any help would be appreciated very much, and it doesn't necessarily have to answer the questions here, as long as it's realated to course selections and stuff!!! Thanks!

You’re going to Lawrenceville, right? The placement test is harder than the SSATs, but there’s no time limit and you do it at home. You look at the questions and answer them, then you input the answers. There’s no rush and you can always stop and start again (though it isn’t recommended). You aren’t supposed to use calculators or books, though they won’t be able to tell.
I don’t know about the language test as I haven’t taken it yet D:

I took the language placement test for Exeter and it was medium hard. I know that it’s going to be harder then what I am used to because my latin teacher doesn’t teach that well, but my advice is to just do what you can do so they can place you in the approriate class.

Thanks!! And urbanflop, how long have you taken Latin? I was planning to take French but I’ve only taken it for 2 years, would that be enough for the test, or would I know nothing on the test?
And thanks again, ILOVEPIE! You helped me again! But can they tell if I stopped and started again? Would that hurt my score if I do so? And will the questions be different if I start it again? Sorry again for all these questions. But I’m really scared! And thanks again!

No, the questions are the same all the time  It’s actually on a pdf download! They won’t be able to tell XD
Good luck!

Oh, and you should complete the questions before opening the page where you’re supposed to input the answers I think.

I think you should try hard on the placement test. Usually the school will put quotas on new students entering a certain level, and so you have to compete with the other new students for those spots, or risk being put in a lower class. This happened for me for math at Exeter, though I don’t know about Lawrenceville.

I personally think it’s better to be put in a higher class and then work hard and get through it than to be put in a lower class where you feel like you’re wasting time.

@Everencer: I have taken latin for 2 years including this year and I am in Latin 1. They gave me the test depending on what I have covered in my class and what level of latin I am on. I completed sheet about that information before they sent me the placement test.

Oh, I took the language placement test for Chinese and it was pretty easy. They didn’t send me one specialized for my level, I just downloaded one used for everyone. I’ve taken Chinese ever since I started kindergarden though :/

You didn’t have to write an essay or anything, right? Because I’m planning on taking the Chinese test as well, but I haven’t studied Chinese in a really really long time now…

ILOVEPIE, is that essay supposed to be written in english or chinese? If Chinese, I’m screwed.
And there is an essay.

There is an essay to be written in Chinese, but it’s optional depending on whether you want to take advanced classes :)

dont worry about placement tests at lville

AH! I am scared about the language test. I have to take it in Spanish…

I think I will do okay in Math but Language is scary.
