My daughter will be attending MSU this fall and received an email about signing up for courses before attending her orientation session in June. It said she needed to review/select fall classes by June 9th, sign up for a WRA and an ISS class. Although she has taken the math placement test, it said that they could not yet place her in a math course because she had not taken test yet. When she attempted to log into the course selection website, it said it is closed until June 2010. We are wondering if the email was sent out in error especially with the June 2010 (not June 2011) Does anyone know if she needs to sign up for courses before attending orientation? Any help would be appreciated.

I know that when my son started Lyman Briggs at MSU he was assigned a couple of classes in May for the fall semester. They were the basic first year classes, math and writing. He had the option to change them. During orientation he picked out more to add to the ones already down. During orientation the kids sit down with a counselor and make sure their classes are what they want because sometimes they have to take some classes towards their major before they can even apply to their major.

Make sure your student looks over the info about classes because there are so many choices! The student does not have to have all the classes set up now because orientation counselors help.

My son didn’t take the MSU math test because he scored high on the ACT so he was automatically put in calculus so I can’t help you there. If your daughter took the math test then she will hear about which math class is right for her. I think that may take a while.

I also wanted to say that this week is finals week so the students are signing up for summer classes right now. After the summer classes are set up and running then the fall classes will be put on the computer.

I hope this helps.

Thanks so much for the quick reply. I will have her try again in a few days. She has printed out some of the class information and you are right-there are many options, but also a lot of required courses that she will need to get in.

I am sure it makes it much easier for the counselors if the kids already have their basic classes put down and have at least an idea of what else they would like. My son is graduating this week. I found MSU’s academic calendar very useful, too.

I got the same e-mail and had the same problems signing in with their system. I sent the web supervisor a message and was told that their e-mail was sent by mistake and to disregard it.
