Hey guys. I'm a freshman and am looking for a little guidance. I will have 3 very rigorous and demanding course each semester from now on. I'd like to fill out my course selection with one class each term that I am more or less guarenteed to do well in. I know there are very few easy classes at Duke, but have any of you had a particularly good experience with a lighter course. Also, I have been given a chance to work on campus this summer. Anyone ever take summer courses and what are your expereinces? Thanks for your time. Beat Virginia!

Chem 83, Dino Bio, and some of the EOS classes have reps for being relatively easy. The survey English courses aren't particularly difficult, but they are reading-intensive.

EOS 11 is not hard at all - just a few short multiple choice tests on the lectures, no homeworks/papers. Some of the lower-level seminars like LIT 20can be easy since it's mostly doing readings and attendance/participation w/o so much work. Sociology is supposed to be easy but I haven't taken it.

Psych 97 = Mommy Psych. I don't know anything about you, yet I can still guarantee that this class will be an insult to your intelligence. I think our class average on tests was a 90. Yeah.

Thanks. Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

I second lower level lit and english classes. If you don't save all your reading to the last minute and get things done, they're relatively easy. I mean, I'm terrible at english and I did well in my Eng 51 class.

Look for anything that ends in "& Society"...never too challenging from what I've gathered.

Some of the classes will depend on the professor. In my psych 97, we covered a lot of material and tests weren't easy, especially the final (cumulative). Test averages were closer to 82-83 but you could still do well if you put in the time.

Oh wow, are you serious? Okay -- then I'll amend my previous post to say Psych 97 with Feng. I think he usually teaches it in the Spring.

Thanks for clarification. I had a course last semester-supposed to be a lighter course to round out three tough ones and it certainly was easier but no curve at all and when final grades came out I had 89.9...no A-. Prof says... I don't curve, no extra credit, and when you get a 90 then it's an A- and not before. Perhaps I was better off in the more rigorous courses.

AIDS and Emerging Diseases is known to be very easy. The bio department actually offers several classes intended for non-majors; from what I know none of them are that much work.

I am currently taking Math 103. And will be taking 104 -linear alg.,121-abstract alg, 131 diff equations, 135-probability, 136-statistics, 139-adv calc and probably 123S-geom, 124- combin, 128S--number theory and 187-logic. Does anyone have an opinion of a good sequence and which courses could reasonably be taken together. I already have appt with the department, but fellow students' thoughts are sometimes most reliable. Thanks.

104 is the class where they get you used to writing proofs, so it might be a good idea to take that by itself before taking other upper level classes. Take 135-136 back to back if possible (would have to be Fall-Spring).
