I am freshman and trying to get into 2 classes. I was lucky enough to attend a high school that paid for dual credit courses and because of that, I was fortunate enough to graduate with 50 college hours. This came with a slight downside since it limited the number of classes that were available for me to register in once I enrolled in UT. By the time I was able to register, most of the classes I needed were full since previous UT students were able to register first. It also had a downside since my financial aid requires me to take 12 hours and I was only able to secure 9 hours. Since all of the classes were full, I placed myself on the waitlists which unfortunately havent been moving. Im 8/35 in one and 9/15 in the other. I tried emailing the professors, explaining my situation, but they said it was out of their hands. Any suggestions on what I should do?

Add on some extra classes just to meet the minimum hours requirement for your financial aid. I would recommend getting classes that would count as electives. Even if you have to add a class that will not help towards your major, you’ll still be a full time student and it may even be interesting. Just make sure to update your waitlists so that if you do get into the classes you need, it automatically drops the extra class. Hope that helps, and good luck at UT!

Just FYI, you can be on 2 waitlists for the same class at the same time. If there are multiple sessions for the class you are hoping to join, I would add yourself to another list to boost your chances.

Which classes are you trying to add? If they’re large and/or weed out classes, you can expect the waitlist to move very quickly once the semester starts. It’s common for students to attend classes they are waitlisted for. This will pay off if you end up getting in later, and, for some professors, this will inspire them to pull some strings to add you to their class.
