courseload + admissions process

what kind of courseload are you transfer applicants taking this semester? i know its obviously too late to make any changes, but I suddenly feel very lazy about my courseload.

at my school, taking 4 4-credit courses (16 credits) per semester is the norm. however, my school is a little different in that 16 credits is only 12.5 hours of class a week. i never even thought about how light this really is until now, since so many other students take on the same courseload.

is my schedule far too light to make me competitive at many top universities? i'm taking microeconomics, two 300-level philosophy courses, and one 400-level senior political science seminar.

could i make up for this by taking 20 credits in the spring, or does our spring schedule not weigh as heavily in the admissions process?

Spring semester counts, but not nearly as much as fall.

16 credits should be sufficient regardless of actual semester hours.

At my school, 5 x 3 credit courses is the norm, but I'm taking 18 credits...yet it translates to little less than that semester hour wise.

here was mine:
Summer 05: 6 units
Fall 05: 19 units
Winter 06: 8 units
Spring 06: 9 units

Summer 06: 8 units
Fall 06: 12 units
Winter 07: not planning anything
Spring 07: only have 8 units of class left

i think my schedule is VERY light but i just don't have anything left to take even when i had 1 9 units semester along with a 12 units one i'm having!

I attend California Community College.

here is my unit completion layout:
Fall '05: 14 units
Spring '06: 14 units

Fall '06: 22 units
Winter: Planning for 7 units
Spring '07: Planning for 18 units

I think there is ALWAYS something to take. I've already complete every single transferrable Economics courses my college has to offer, and only have one more transferrable business course (business law) left to master Business category.

After having finished this, I plan on further completing math courses (statistics and Calc III), and maybe one Business Communication (or Business English) class to improve my verbal skill. And probably some CIT classes.

As far as im concerned, i know there is NO LIMIT to units i take before transferring, so im planning on taking advantage of that and complete as many courses possible (for purpose of developing my skill and knowledge) before continuing on my education in UCLA (or USC, or Berkeley) :P

California CC

Fall '05: 14 units
Winter '06: 8 units
Spring '06: 14 units
Summer '06: 11 units
Fall '06: 16 units (late start class added)
Winter '07: 9 units planned
Spring '07: 13 units planned *(+3 units)

*If I am handling the course load well, I will add a late start class.

I'm gonna go with dhl3's philosphy here. I love the classes here at my CC. It's so cheap too...

My S took a similar courseload to yours, donpon, at a top25 LAC. 4 courses, counted as 4 "units" by that school, equivalent to 16 credits at another school, but only about 12-13 hours of class. The # of hours won't matter at all. My S got into all but one school he applied to, several very selective. Your courseload is fine.

thank you jmmom...just what i wanted to hear!!
