Would it be a bad idea to take any of these course (all of them, or at least 3 combined): bio111/112, chem 110/120, phys 131/142 and math 150/151 for science?

The guidebook thingy says Physics 131/142 and Math 150/151 are more challenging, and I consider that good, but I don't want to end up in classes that I won't be able to handle (specially if I take them together)... so yeah, any help?

Take math 140/141 instead of 150/151. If you want to do calc 3, you can do it in the summer (or in U1, it's no big deal to wait until then). I've said it and I'll say it again: math 150/151 is math 140/141/222 put into 2 semesters instead of 3. It's better to get go grades in 140/141 than get so-so grades in 150/151 (or worse, go from 150 to 141 after a bad grade)...

EDIT: How much calculus have you done before? You could get credited for 140 possibly, then it's a good thing to go directly to 141 then do 222.

It really depends on you. My first semester I took Bio 111, Phys 131, Chem 212, Math 133, and Math 222 and I survived just fine.

Basically, my warning about the chem and bio classes is that your grades very much focus on remembering a lot of stuff for the finals. The lab writeups and such are not bad at all really.

As far as the math's go, I got AP credit for AB and BC calc, so I skipped ahead a bit.

biol 111/112 were the easiest classes that i took last year. i was exempted from both calcs but from what i hear, 140 is UBER easy. basically, ur 1st semester is really easy given that ur high school has prepared u well. it's only 2nd semester that gets tougher. so it's up to u if u wanna face chem, phys 142, calc 151 all together. i've actually never met anyone from last year who chose this combination. all the engineering kids went with calc 140/141 and they were all getting murdered in physics. if ur in science, take phys 101/102. i donno how 101 is since i got exempted but 102 is easy to get an A in if u do all the assigned problems and practices midterm.

is there any alternative to taking biol 111? i have to take one year of bio for my med school requirements, but i don't care one bit about plants and animals, i honestly don't want to learn about that crap. biol 112 seems interesting enough, but 111 is just.... ugh. i'm in the faculty of arts, btw.

omg yes biol 111 was the BIGGEST waste of time but it's such an easy A if you can memorize well. You don't even use the textbook for the class. You basically memorize every piece of information in the lecture notes and lab manual and you're good. the 2nd part of biol 111 got really good though, when we finally moved to the dissections in lab and lectures, it was really interesting. you just have to last till the midterm. i suggest u take biol 111 for the pre med requirement, if u don't take biol 111, u'll have to take biol 200 to fulfill it and you DO NOT want to take biol 200 unless you have to!!!!. this year, the class average was somewhere in the 50 range i think and 40% of the class failed the midterm.

what are the labs about in 111? so basically memorize everything and you get an A in biol 111? that's a pretty sweet deal for my pre-med science GPA. what about biol 112? how's that class?

the lab in biol 111 was really really stupid until the different dissections. During the plants and prokaryote/eukaryote sections, you look at flowers, fungi, random really really boring crap. no u don't mutilate frogs. i agree with n-man, biol 112 requires more understanding, especially the genetic engineering and problems. it's good to open the book for biol 112 cause schoek is prettying confusing cause of his accent and dent speaks way too fast and has too much to say

can't really say that one of them is better than the other....they're just really different. 111 is easier but also more boring. 111 is useless unless ur gonna major in bio
