courses hard?

how hard are the classes at Princeton?

I am used to waking up at 5am and studying for an exam and cramming 300 pages of text for a test... but, is this what it takes for Princeton?

i'm worried if i'm there, i'll get my asskicked by the classe difficulty, although im not sure how much harder a class could get...

i'm self motivated and have rarely placed anything in school work... in fact, a lot of grades are just due to great time management while others slacked.

From what I've heard from students at Ivy League schools, the classes tend to be medium-easy.
That is, it's easy to get a B, but it takes a great deal of effort to get an A.
The only exception I've heard is at Cornell where the students break their backs over grades.
Also, how hard the classes at Princeton are depends on what classes you take, and how many you're taking.

ah, yeah... i was just wondering. i've heard from various posts that princeton has some policy where only one kid can get a 99, and one kid can get a 98.8, so it takes a lot of effort to get a high A.

thing is, i want to get into med school... and i hope princeton won't be detrimental to it... i could pull a 4.0 at any state school, i think.

princeton grade caps now, my fellow pre-Med...that scared me, but not enough.

yeah, they cap grades.

is that detrimental for a premed? princeton will be like highschool because i have yet another school to get into.

mea: You seem to have very risk taking and self confident personality. My son and I had similar conversation and he told me so what? I will work hard.

amnesia: Time management would be a key.

simba - : ), your son sounds great. You were there through all my waffling and misgivings about how to choose schools (thanks again), so you probably know a good bit of the confidence is a bluff. However, Princeton has too many opportunities to turn down for inevitable self-doubt. : )!

amnesia - to speak obviously, it woudl be detrimental to the pre-Med who no longer gets an A under the 35% policy. However, to the pre-Med who does get the A, perhaps it will mean more, if you know what I mean. 90%+ students at Harvard graduate with honors, for example, so anyone in the know won't be overly awed by honors grads from there.

Then again, I think you should know that med schools are pretty unforgiving. They don't adjust for drops in GPA for hard currics (they do, but not to a comforting extent).

Science classes are reputed to be harder at Princeton, particularly org chem which is already a killer. However, I would take that to mean that they're harder for everyone, so I wouldn't worry.

what about the humanities? Is it much more difficult now?

Probably if you were accepted you will be able to do the work. At least that's the premise we are going on...

man, i hope its at this level. I've always eniviosned college to be like 4 hour sleep, work a holic. but that was elementary school b4 AP classes. hmmm maybe we ll survive on ROck Stars

yeah i thought HS was hard so i don't believe any college myths of how hard it could be....

it's a little stressful, but a total joke to carry a 4.0... at least that's what i think... i have yet to be challenged so i do my own stuff

amnesia - what nutso HS do you go to?
