<p>I suppose you should do things you actually like to do. If you think you have potential in art, why not enter art competitions or take that art class? Having skills in art is awesome.

<p>I believe that taking classes in whatever you have a passion for will suit you when it comes time for applications. Colleges will see your interest in that/those subject(s) and will consider how focused you are at it/them. However, for MIT particularly, math and science courses are recommended, particularly if they are AP/IB/Honors, etc.</p>
