How essential is US history? My daughter (senior) has social studies each year (2 years of world history plus religion), plus wants to take AP economics and AP psychology this year, but has an incomplete in US history due to withdrawing from school with health problems junior year. I can't see specific requirements on college applications for US history, just social studies. Does anyone know? Thanks!

I don’t know about colleges, but US History is usually a high school graduation requirement.

She will graduate as a homeschooled student so there will not be a requirement there - I just want to make sure she is covered for college.

I find it very odd that your state doesn’t require studying American History as part of an approved home school curriculum. It’s such a basic that I think its absence will stick out to an admissions person, even if it isn’t an explicit requirement. (And personally I think it’s a prerequisite for being a responsible citizen.) AP Psych is often considered to be an easy AP that isn’t given much regard by colleges, so perhaps American History should be taken instead.

UC schools require it.

It’s a national requirement for high school graduation since the Reagan era, I think (I believe it’s the only one that all states must have.) The only exception is US Government which I think in some states is allowed to substitute.
Your daughter could take it online, at a local CC…
