I was planning to take Honors Pre Calc and Honors Physics over the summer through FLVS, can anyone share their experiences with the courses through FLVS. Keep in mind I plan on taking AP Calculus AB and AP Physics 1 in the school year, so I would like to actually learn something
It is very easy to skate through FLVS courses without actually learning anything, so you will need to make an effort to retain the material. I do, however, have experience with Honors Pre-Calculus. The class is composed of almost entirely quizzes and tests, with a few homework assignments here and there. The first semester should be a review of Algebra 2, except for the last module, which introduces some new trig. The second semester is entirely new material, and ends with an introduction to limits and calculus.
If you have access to free dual enrollment programs and you are capable in math to the point where you are comfortable with taking what would normally be a ten-month advanced math class in two months, then you could take Pre-Calculus over the summer at a community college. I am not sure if very basic (below General Physics) Physics courses and their required labs are available to take over the summer, but AP Physics 1 almost never requires any prior physics, and I believe the curriculum assumes no knowledge of physics, so you might be able to get away with having it as your first physics course.
What grade are you in? If you’re a current sophomore/rising junior, then I think that you should save your summer for extracurriculars or recreation; it wouldn’t hurt to save AP Calc/Physics for senior year.
I am a current sophomore but most juniors and seniors in my school take AP Calc both years.
I ended up taking Pre Calc online and I’m doing far better in calc compared to students who took pre calc in school. :)>-
