I'm in high school and I plan on majoring in biology to become a veterinarian. If I take some courses required for my biology major, such as introductory to biology, at a community college, will I get credit for it when I go to a university? I understand that during high school you should get rid of your GE classes, but I also want to know if it is possible to get rid of your major classes too.

It depends on whether said school accepts transfer credit, top schools typically don’t. It won’t hurt however because you’ll have great prior knowledge in any other class.

Also, general biology and introduction to biology courses are often “major prerequisites” not major courses.

It depends entirely on the university you want to go to. Check with them, they will tell you what does and does not transfer.

It is not necessary to get rid of all of your GE classes in high school. In fact, in taking a GE class in college, you may find something else that you are passionate about instead of taking ONLY courses in your major.

But is it completely out of the question for high school students getting rid of their major prereqs? Even if the class was transferable, can you still transfer the credits when you go to college even though you took it during high school?

Again, ONLY the school can answer this question. Different universities have different policies.

Where are you thinking about going? I can use a real life example.

I’ve been thinking about going to UCLA. Sorry if you feel you are being repetitive, but a lot of students as well as counselors have been telling me that it is COMPLETELY out of the question for high school students wanting to get credit for major prereq or major courses by taking it at a community college.

From the UCLA website:

It may be that you can only transfer a limited amount of courses or that you can only get certain prereqs at a CC, but that’s what the website says.

Is there any restriction on age? And do you mind giving me the link to the website? Not assist, but the ucla link.

[About Transfer Credit - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](Transferring Credits | UCLA Undergraduate Admission)

Future reference, Google is your friend. It was the first link under “UCLA transfer credit”.

So does this apply to high school students who take classes at a CC?

Again, I would assume so, but I only know what the website tells me. Have you tried the UCLA forum on here? Or have you tried emailing the school? No one on HSL will be able to tell you more than what I already have.

A better source is the CC. Their class schedule should say what is and isn’t UC transferable (at least if it’s in California). Intro Bio would almost certainly be transferable (again assuming it’s in CA).
