Hey, I don't know if any of you saw this, but on the Garnet Gateway welcome page (under the section that says "Update on First Year Seminars since the printed brochure was mailed to students") it says that First Year Seminar 187 has been cancelled. I think 187 is Hard Times: Economy and Society in the Great Depression with Michael Oliver... I don't know why it was cancelled because it filled up pretty quickly, but maybe it's a personal issue?

rissa - I had registered for FYS 187. I was in touch with Professor Hughes (chair of the economics department) and he told me that Professor Oliver will be spending the fall in England for research purposes and will be unable to take the FYS. Hope that helps.
PS my new FYS - Luck and the Moral Life

Thanks mellow - wow, that's an awesome opportunity for Prof. Oliver, though it must be disappointing about the seminar. Luck and the Moral Life sounds like a great FYS, I hope you enjoy it this fall! (I ended up choosing "Trials of Conscience," but I was seriously considering "Hard Times")
