Courses

I signed up for five courses and now on the website, http://registration.brown.edu, it just shows up three of them… I’m just wondering if it’s possible to change the course time to fit another course in.

You can change your courses up until 2 weeks into the semester, I think.

I signed up for five and it only shows four. If we want to do five, are we supposed to ask to do a fifth when we get to Brown??

first year seminars dont show up on that form

that registration website is thus inaccurate as far as your actual registration is concerned. you receive a schedule in your orientation packet that can be changed throughout a long perioud of time

my FYS as well as many other kids' shows up on that.

Wait, HK8 and E=m(a^2+b^2), you guys signed up for FIVE COURSES? Wow... I was actually wondering whether four would be too much for me and was considering taking only three (which Brown actually suggests)... hmmmmmm.

They don't suggest taking three...I believe it's a possibility that they leave for you if there's something going on in your life. The normal course load is 4 courses/semester. I think what the others are doing is signing up for five classes and dropping one as the semester progresses and they discover that one class isn't so hot.

yeah, that's why most people sign up for 5, it's alot easier to drop a course than to add one.

I signed up for 5 as well, so that I could drop the one that I liked the least.. but will the course show up on my transcript as being dropped?

if you drop before the drop/add period ends then they will not

when does it end? and how exactly does the whole "shopping" thing work?

I think shopping period is a week or two. Basically you can go around and visit classes to decide which ones you like, in case you sign up for a class but then decide its not for you. I think during this period, you can add and drop classes without this being indicated on your transcript.

On a somewhat unrelated note...I was just checking the classes I got assigned and I got assigned to section C14 of Econ 11, but when I check BOAC, this class doesnt show up...anyone else assigned to this section or know what the deal is??

C14 is your "conference" section. The S## is your section. C14 is a supplimentary meeting, like a prelab for a science.

sorry if this is a stupid question...but whats a prelab??

BOAC lists only C1 to C10 for this class, so the thing is I don't know what time this meeting is...if it clashes with my other classes can I get it changed?? Also are these meetings optional or do we have to go??

Thanks

I've heard that a lot of kids have their FYS posted when logged into the Registrar's website. I, for one, signed up for a FYS but do not have anything posted. I've heard, however, that we don't find out about FYS until we get up to school. Can anyone make sense of this?

a lottery is held to figure out who gets into a FYS (not everyone who signs up for one gets in). if you don't have anything posted, probability is that you didn't get into one. But i'm not sure about the whole finding-out-at-orientation thing.

I didn't find many of the fall FYS's to be attractive. I'm holding out for spring's.
