Hiii,
I’m currently a Computer Engineering major at UCSD, but I’m deliberating switching to CS, since I’m primarily interested in software. I applied L&S Computer Science at Cal.
If I do this, however, I’m going to have a W in physics (so I can focus on my programming courses), and a complete re-evaluation of my coursework next quarter. My completion of pre-reqs/GEs will not be affected. Will this jeopardize my chances?
STATS!
GPA: 3.93 (made an error inputting credits, ~3.91 on application)
Pre-reqs: Ideally 6/7, will take last one over the summer. Took CS61BL at Cal, loved it.
GEs: UC Reciprocity
EC & Essays: Bit worried on this front. I neglected to mention why I wanted to transfer UCs, and I think I sold the beauty of CS more than I sold myself. My second may have been too metaphoric and may go up in flames if the adcoms don’t understand my references to Schrodinger’s cat.
Don’t have many ECs pertaining to my major. Job on campus, rock-climbing, tutoring job/volunteered a lot in HS.
F/Asian
I personally think you have a great shot but I also wouldnt be surprised if you got rejected since you dont have many EC’s and being asian will pretty much lump you in with the crowd, no offense.
None taken, that’s been a lifelong struggle haha.
But thanks for the reply! I’m not too optimistic, seeing so many better candidates rejected on here.
So did you already finish 61A, 61C, and 70??? where did you take those courses if you have finished? Cal?
My 6/7 estimate was best case, since there’s no guarantee my classes will be accepted as equivalences as an intercampus transfer, especially going from quarter to semester (they said to just try our best using the course catalog).
I’m taking 61A at Cal over the summer, and I’m about to finish my machine structures (61C) course at UCSD. I’ve already taken a discrete math class and a course in mathematics for algorithms & systems (predominantly probability theory) that I’m hoping will suffice for 70.
I’ve heard they’re pretty difficult to find at CCCs as well, so hopefully they’ll be a bit more lenient towards CS transfers regarding pre-reqs haha.
