Coursework complete before applying?

do we need to complete all coursework before applying? or can we show intention of completion before graduation? does this affect chances at all?

Most schools have the policy that you just need to have completed the prerequisites by the time of matriculation. That being said, it’s hard for them to take someone who has only completed Chem 101 and Bio 101 and is applying very seriously. Not to mention, that person is going to have major issues with the MCAT.

i should have clarified…i intend on taking my year of english and biochem later on

At the vast majority of places you’ll be fine (especially since Biochem and English aren’t even prereqs at all places)…you may want to call the individual schools you’re applying to first though. For instance, I know that Wake Forest wants your prerequisites done by application time.

any other notable schools that want pre-reqs completed ahead of time? (UCs, top 25?)

You’ll be fine. I even know someone who hadn’t taken biochem and didn’t plan on it and was accepted into a med school that required biochemistry - that’s where he matriculated and so he took it the summer before matriculation at a community college lol.

No school that I know of has a formal policy of only interviewing people that have finished the pre-reqs.

biochem would only be important to complete before applying if you’ve struggled in Ochem or some of the upper division biology courses. Then a high grade in Biochem serves to demonstrate you’ve overcome your previous difficulties.

Otherwise, I wouldn’t worry.

what about the yr of english? should i atleast complete one semester prior to applying?

You should either complete one semester or be enrolled in a semester for the coming semester.
