Okay so I made the stupid mistake of telling my cousin that I was applying to boarding school and I could tell she was so sad. It killed me because she was never really good at school and her life revolves around her social life. She is very stubborn and now she's just ignoring me. She won't listen about anything about how boarding school could be better for me because she doesn't know why I want to do so well in school. What can I say to her to calm her down or get her used to the idea of boarding school. I haven't even told her yet that it's an all girls school. She's very judgemental so she'll think a lot of bad stuff if I tell her. So how can I say that so she won't freak out. Please HELP!!!!!!!!

Well I’m going to an allgirls school this fall and I know where you’re coming from. I had my share of friends who just would not listen to my explanation. Just try to explain to her how this is the best option for you, and you’re going through with it and you would like her support. After she calms down a bit try to explain the concept to her. Most people nowadays don’t exactly understand what boarding school is (at least people where I live dont). Point out that this doesn’t mean you’ll never see each other. Explain to her all the breaks you have during the year, and maybe even promise to call her twice a week or so.

Just give her time and she’ll come around.

Thank you so much. Your response was really really helpful. And yeah the people from my town don’t understand what boarding school really is. The first person I told (best guy friend) asked if my parents were sending me away and he was really mad but when I told him it was my decision he got even madder but after a while he helped me choose the school and now he supports me 100%. Maybe my cousin will be like this. Fingers crossed.
