Cover Letter Colleges

Hey. So I'm a rising college freshman who's thinking about taking a gap year. I've been applying to some programs and internships. One of them is Americorps. So far, though, I've been turned down by one or two Americorps programs, and I think it has to do with the fact that I didn't have much community service experience, except for tutoring, or even extracurricular leadership.

So, do you think that it would be a good idea for me to mention some of the colleges I was accepted to?
I'm currently enrolled at UC Berkeley (and would withdraw that enrollment if I end up doing the gap year because they don't allow deferments). I chose Berkeley over some highly selective Ivies (Dartmouth) due to cost.

How would I mention that in a resume? Or should I mention that in my cover letter?

I also feel like my Americorps application is really weak because they don't have any fields devoted to academic record, despite the fact that I was strongest in academics, and weakest in community service. Nonetheless, some of their programs really interest me.

Do you think I should also mention academic things like SAT/GPA in my cover letter?

Why would you mention the colleges that you got accepted to? It in itself is not an accomplishment. You shall put forth the good points that get you accepted to those colleges into your application to Americorps. You might need to be creative to find ways to show your strength.

The americorps applications is much different than the commonapp; it doesn’t ask for gpa/test scores; there is only 1 very short essay, it doesn’t ask about academic extracurriculars (like if you did scientific research, you would have no place to put that). I was leaning towards putting the colleges I was accepted to on my resume because they would give a hint towards those academic factors, and because they might indicate that the college, at least, saw potential in me.

Ive already been rejected from quite a few Americorps programs without having put on the college I was accepted to. I imagine that when they flip through my app they’re thinking I’m just an ordinary high school graduate who did some tutoring and some science olympiad, nothing amazing; when in fact they haven’t seen most of my academic work, etc.
