Is it possible to take out loans to help alleviate the costs associated with living off campus? I'm an undergraduate, but, completely independent. I'm moving to New York City and I'm going to be in a pretty rigorous program. Working less, in this case, may equal success.

The Cost of Attendance for most colleges includes a component to cover room & board. So if you have need, and applied for financial aid, there may be some grant or loan $$ there to help with off-campus room & board and misc living expenses.

^^ Both my kids live off campus and use their financial towards their apartment rent, and food and utilities etc.

Is that a spam message?

I’m assuming those sorts of things are hugely exaggerated, and do not work for many people.

Yeah, that’s spamspamspamspam. I’m weighing my options right now. Another concern of mine? When I go to sign an apartment lease can I state financial aid as making up the largest component of my income towards rent? Will a leasing office go for that?

Is what a spam message? If you mean my post (wasn’t sure it you did), then no. Financial aid is based on the school’s COA which includes an allowance for the cost of room and board. At both my kid’s schools (both State Us) the COA is the same for living off campus or on campus. After freshman year they both opted to move off campus. Any money left after tuition and fees is paid to them and they use the funds toward paying off-campus living expenses.

No, there was a spam post in between, that was removed.

Oh thanks sblake.
