Covid -- Additional Booster?

This makes sense that i go to large trade shows working the booth and seem to walk away without covid, the longest convo is usually a few minutes. I was more concerned at a baseball game where the same people surround me

I had zero conversations with anyone, yet caught covid on an hour long (indoor) ferry ride. I would not be too sanguine if your booth is indoors.

Every time i attend one of these I fully expect to get Covid😔. So i am just surprised and assume spending less then a few minutes per person in a room with high ceilings has to have some affect

I was with my friend 24/7 in Quebec City for almost a week. We even shared a bed. When we got back, she tested positive and had a pretty bad case. I tested negative and never had symptoms. So weird.

The CDC advisory committee is meeting on Sept 12, so as soon as they approve it, people can get it if available at pharmacies.

When do they expect Novavax to become available? Would it be within days or weeks? (Or did they not give a specific timeframe?)

I got likely got Covid at my college reunion and was with DH almost the whole time. He never got it from me, but he’d gotten an extra booster that I had not.

H and I have had 6 covid shots, including our 2nd bivalent booster most recently 4/2023. We still got covid from a 80th birthday party where everyone in our table got it. It was a very crowded event at a crowded restaurant.

I attended my mom’s funeral the next day and wore a kf94 mask the whole time except while eating and drinking. I didn’t give covid to anyone and only tested and was positive after I got home from the services utterly exhausted. Paxlovid was taken and made huge improvement on symptoms. My H and kids both ended up getting covid too and using Paxlovid.

Covid is so weird.

My daughter’s fiancé recently contracted covid while we were visiting.

Neither myself, my immune compromised husband or my immune compromised daughter who had surgery that day got covid. None of us.

We spent the day in the pre op area. We sat at dinner that night and went out to dinner the night before. Nada, nothing. Who knows why.

Daughter needed help so we stayed with her in the house knowing her fiancé had covid. He slept in the basement and wore a mask when upstairs. But honestly, he wasn’t as careful as he could be.

I was resigned that all of us would get covid. But none of us did. It’s so odd.

Anyone know the waiting period required between Covid Boosters? We received the last one mid-July before travel and an August wedding. We MAY be traveling again in late October or early November, but assume we need to wait until Mid-December before the latest version.

We managed to dodge the virus from our (outdoor) party guest last weekend who only had (unknown to us) mild symptoms so didn’t test until the evening after the party. Since she’d recently been traveling, including a long time in a security line at O’Hare. Arggh!

We’re going to a Meetup bay cruise in a couple of days. It’s all outside, and there will be a good breeze, but I know this crowd. So I included a comment on the event post: “As a reminder, many people prefer not to receive hugs due to the ongoing endemic so please don’t feel rebuffed!”

Just before the pandemic hit in early 2020, I organized an outside lunch with a group of friends. One of them had just gotten back from a Southeast Asia cruise, where there were already news stories about the virus. She ran around the table hugging and kissing everyone.

She will be on this bay cruise. And the co-host liked my comment, saying her son had just gotten COVID for the third time. So no, I don’t want my friends interfacing with my face.

FDA extends approval or emergency use authorization for Pfizer and Moderna vaccines to include the 2023-2024 formula (XBB.1.5):

The above page does not mention Novavax. Other news pages say that the Novavax 2023-2024 formula is still under review.

I noticed that, too! However, today’s CDC ACIP meeting regarding the new booster has Pfizer, Moderna, and Novavax on the agenda. So even though Novavax won’t be out the gate with the other two, I’m interested to see what the data shows about Novavax to see if there is any info on how long the delay is and how effective Novavax will be compared to the mRNA boosters. I think I’d like to get the Novavax if I could.

Can I ask why?

I haven’t come across any articles yet that note if there is a recommended wait time between the RSV shot and the new Covid vaccine. Had planned to do RSV and then flu/Covid shots together. I am in an age group that is encouraged to get new Covid vax sooner than later. Anyone know? TIA.

https://www.medpagetoday.com/special-reports/exclusives/106112 suggests getting RSV vaccine separately from COVID and flu vaccines (because RSV vaccine is new with limited data), with two weeks between.

Thank you for this info and the other helpful posts on this thread. Much appreciated.

I hardly ever see my daughter who lives about an hour away. But we did have a great “Barbie” date on Saturday. The next day she tested positive for Covid (though no symptoms) - her first time… what were the odds of that?

I tested negative today so will do my afternoon volunteer gig - it’s outside, but when inside (with lot of older volunteers) I’ll wear a mask to be safe.

What made her test then?

She tested because when she learned that a friend she’d been with a few days prior buddy had Covid…. and she was concerned about maybe exposing me during the movie or our time together afterward.
