The canceled football game was in SC.
I still have the expired tests, so we’ll try them in a few days to see if he’s no longer coming up positive. He was so miserable and…irritable, that I wanted to make sure he used a good test the first time!
@HImom Walmart showed availability but when I got there, they were out. I asked the pharmacist and they said said if they had any, they would be “on that shelf”, which was empty.
I was just reading a story on Fox where the headline is that the president may require everyone to get the new Covid booster. Then in the story, it details how the booster may be recommended for everyone. Hopefully people aren’t stupid enough to just read the headline, because I can see some major pushback about what is merely a recommendation.
Sadly, many folks, regardless of their news sources preference, do not read beyond the headlines.
My son-in-law was able to find tests at a local non chain pharmacy. CVS and Target were sold out. I also found out that in my county one can get free tests from the county health department.
For those looking to replenish stock of Covid tests, Amazon has ihealth test (we thought a bit easier to use than BionaxNOW) at
$16 for 2pack, $32 for 5pack. Free 2-day shipping with Prime.

We have a stockpile of Binax covid tests because we made it a habit to go to Walgreens each month to pick up our allotment of free tests covered by insurance until May of this year. I checked them this week-end, and all have a sticker with a revised expiration date of either May or June 2024. The older ones were used when we were sick or had an exposure, so most of these were probably from late 2022 and first half of 2023.
I’m glad we have them, because I’m sure we are much more likely to test in various scenarios than we would if we had to go out and purchase tests. Just packed a bunch for our upcoming 2-week family vacation (sans the big box packaging!)
Just came across a warning at fda.gov that there are counterfeit test kits in circulation. Two brands mentioned by name are ihealth and flowflex. Grrrrr…
Some Medicare advantage plans still pay for COVID test kits. So if you have one…check that.
I believe that headline is clickbait, as the article mentions the CDC may recommend a booster.
Intentionally misleading headline is politically motivated – consequently any facts I could state regarding the “source”, or their “consumers’” demand for misleading headlines, could also be considered political – so I rather not test our moderators’ good will.
Of interest as we enter booster season…
Three of the seven authors are from “Children’s Health Defence (Australia Chapter)”, which is a branch of Children’s Health Defense, Robert Kennedy’s anti-vaccine group in the US.
Also, better to get a controlled dose of spike proteins from a vaccine than a much larger dose from replicating virus that infects you.
But since the vax doesn’t protect you from infection, only possibly from a more serious infection…most will get the spike protein from BOTH the vax AND a replicating virus infection.
And that still leaves 5 other authors …
Actually, a vaccine does protect against infection by a closely related variant, even though the protection is not 100%.
That amount of spike protein would likely be much less than from a replicating virus infection without prior vaccination against a closely related variant.
Is it? The authors seem to be debating that viewpoint.
If you believed that, wouldn’t you have variolated back in 2020/2021 instead of waiting for vaccine?
Check their affiliation. No wonder they are debating a vaccine. BTW, calling these vaccines “gene-based” is a deliberate use of a misleading and incorrect terminology to trigger “gene therapy” antivax believers.
I learned a new word today! Thanks!
