Based on our reading. Cox business seems like largest school within SMU and offers 3 methods of admissions: scholars, direct or 3.5 gpa on pre business core (up from 3.3 GPA pre 2016). Any data on how many Cox students enter via direct vs. scholars vs. internal transfer?. The 3.5 gpa seems like a potentially tough standard. Anyone with knowledge of stats or how hard grading or academic competition is at SMU to achieve 3.5 if you don’t get direct admit?
100 scholars, 100 direct, then somewhere between 200-350 internal transfers with the 3.5 gpa per grade. You just need to get above the 3.5 and I have found SMU to be a very collaborative environment. Grading isn’t too bad in the pre-req classes just be sure to work hard and study and you’ll be good.
I talked to our tour guide about this. It used to be 3.3 and they recently raised it to 3.5. However, he said that 3.5 is very achievable if you study, go to class etc. They are not trying to keep numbers down - if you earn the grades, you are in. That being said, if something goes south the first year (due to adjustments away from home, a bad class, etc), I could see how a 3.5 could be missed. For this reason, my son will probably go elsewhere where he is assured business.
