Hey all. I’m planning on applying next year to SMU, and hopefully to the BBA scholars or Business Direct programs as well. Unfortunately, my grades are a weak spot of my application, and I’ve gotten two Cs - one in honors chem 1st semester Freshman year and one in honors precalc in my second semester of my junior year. Does this completely screw the pooch for my odds at getting into Hunt direct admit? I have a 3.83 UW GPA otherwise (4.4W), a 34 ACT, and strong leadership/ECs.
You are a strong candidate for Cox regardless of the C’s. But no one outside of the SMU Admissions office can answer this question, so make sure you have a balanced list of schools you’re applying to and take your chances.
Very solid candidate. With that disparity in weighted vs. unweighted, you’ve been taking rigorous classes. 3.83 UW in core classes would be solid as an overall average. SMU looks at core academic classes for GPA calculation. 34 ACT is very good.
I believe that 2020’s average BBA Scholar SAT was 1490 and it was probably higher this year with test optional.
Make sure to show interest at SMU and other private universities.
I really appreciate you guys’ encouragement and advice. I was really freaking out when I saw my final grades come in, but I feel a lot better now.
