Do any of you know about how many are accepted a year? I've heard up to 40, but I'm not completely sure.

Also, do any of you know the average stats for someone who is awarded the scholarship? Is a 1500 (800 M 700 CR) SAT and 4.0 UW competitive?

Thanks for your responses. The deadline is in a few days so I'm combing over my essays one last time. Wish me luck!

Do a check on threads that I’ve posted for information on several of IU’s scholarships. My son was fortunate enough to receive one last year. He also interviewed for the Wells Scholarship but did not get it. A few weeks later, he received word that he was being offered a Presidential Scholarship and the next day the Cox.

He was valedictorian of his class. I’m not sure of GPA but he had all A’s through school and took as many AP classes as they offered. He went to a small (100/grade) Christian school in Indianapolis. I think for all of the scholarships they are looking “well-rounded” which I’m sure you’ve heard many many times. He didn’t have a ton of EC’s but the few he had he really did a lot with. In school, it was the Civic’s club. He progressed from a member to President and grew the club quite a bit as well as organized some neat fundraisers for the community. In terms of sports, he never played any organized sport in school as he was a nationally ranked kart racer. We traveled about 20 weekends a year that mostly included Friday and a lot of times Monday. In fact, that was part of the reason we switched from public to private schooling so he could be gone more. Finally, having great recommendation letters works in your favor as well.

I think they offered about 40 and hoped to get about 20-25 to accept the Cox.

Good luck.

They must have released Cox a lot earlier last year. The deadline is the Wednesday and recommendations are due in January. Wells just received word yesterday.

Anyways, I have the same grades and a similar EC situation. I’m not spread out all over the place; instead I invested a lot of time in areas that interest me.

Do you happen to remember his SATs? That is, if you are comfortable posting or PMing them to me.

i think right at 1400

Thank you for your help.

I only have one more question. Was there a finalist cut with an interviewing process like the Wells scholarship has? Or did they simply pick their four kids off of the selective scholarship application?

There wasn’t a finalist cut, just a letter in the mail with the offer. Good Luck.
