CPP vs CC -> UC for Aerospace Engineering

Hello,

I am around 80% sure that I want to go to CPP but the thought of going to a CC for two years and then transferring to a school like UCLA (through the TAP program) is making me second guess going to CPP. I plan on applying to grad school and maybe having a name like UCLA on my application would make it stronger? I understand CPP is very good for engineering, especially aerospace but I would appreciate any feedback on this!

Thank you!

You might change your mind and in reality, your grades and any research experience matter way more than the school name. Take the bird in hand. Go Broncos!

I agree - take the bird in the hand… this link may help, UCLA Aerospace Engineering has an 11% admit rate for transfers. Even if you do great at the CC, it is still a reach for most applicants. a GPA above 3.8 is a pretty tall order.

Go to CPP and make the most of being on campus for all 4 years, participate in clubs and other campus related activities, connect with students and profs and you will be in a great position for grad school.

Go Broncos

TAP only gives preference for admission into Letters & Science (now called UCLA College), not Engineering. The name change to “UCLA College” probably confuses a lot of people.

I agree with the previous poster about the benefit of being in the same program all 4 years. As for grad school, if you attend any ABET approved engineering program they will understand you are more than qualified. In fact I know someone who went to CPP and then a few years ago got their Masters from USC.

That’s a really good link mikemac posted, take a look at the local community colleges you’d attend if you went that path, and how they do wrt number of admits. You can filter by community college. If it’s zero or only a handful, then you may want to just go with CPP.
