Hi I am currently a year away from transferring and am still trying to figure out where to transfer to. I am a bio major on track to get an associate’s for transfer in biology and wanted to learn about CPP’s bio compared to SDSUs department. I am still unsure at the moment about my career but I am interested in prosthetics, medicine, and physical therapy and would like to do some undergrad research once I transfer.
I am currently looking into CPP because of how much it’s tailored for transfer students and I heard that class sizes were much smaller than at SDSU (realized not long ago that I really prefer smaller class sizes after being at UCSD for a bit) but don’t know much about their biology department. I am from San Diego and am still considering SDSU since its a great campus nearby but I am starting to think that I may want a change of scenery (also Pomona is close enough to the Long Beach area where San Dominguez Hill’s prosthetics program is located at as well as the physical therapy program at Long Beach State so I thought that maybe it would be great to be in the area a while longer.
I really want to hear from current and former bio majors as to how they liked it there.
I’m considering applying there too, just don’t really know anything about the school yet. I’ve been around SDSU and talked with admissions people from Cal Poly Pamona and really liked both schools thus far. I’ll definelty have to look into long Beach.
Long Beach is a great school and has a LOT of resources on campus. You may also be able to access all of the medical facilities nearby.
I love SDSU, and you would love your experience there, but for what you want, I think you want to be in the middle of the areas that produce prosthetics, have access to more medical facilities and and PT options. That’s why I suggested Long Beach.
Good Luck! Apply freely!

I don’t want to discourage you from doing research if its from genuine interest, but you should be aware that PT schools require experience in the field as a condition for admission. See for example
www.csulb.edu/college-of-health-human-services/physical-therapy/admissions-overview/application-requirements
And if you are interested in med school, same thing. An unwritten requirement is patient care experience. 20+ years ago research was an acceptable substitute, but not anymore
Thank you I will keep this in mind then, I applied for some research summer programs for this summer so I might just get that experience now and focus on patient experience instead.
Cal State Long Beach has what you’re looking for. CPP does not offer a masters in PT, but does have linkage with a few Medical schools that do offer MD, DO, PT and other programs.
