I have been admitted to all three universities for civil engineering and I know sjsu and cal poly have the better programs. Which one should I go to. I live close to cal poly pomona (1hr) but I'll be living on campus. I want to have fun and "get the full college experience." From what I've read cp is the best for CE with sjsu next but very close. And living in SF would be awesome but does not have a well known program.

Probably Cal Poly, if for Computer Science, I would recommend SJSU.

What about the campus life? Which would you say is better? Dr google

@Pats1229 Have you visited the campuses?? If not, I would highly recommend you visit before you make a decision since you will be there for 4 years.
If you want small town near beaches, then SLO.
If you want more urban, more things to do, pick SJSU.

@Gumbymom I’m actually transferring. I’ll be going in as a junior. But still you’re right I’ve been to cal poly pomona but not to sjsu I’m hoping to go very soon. I didn’t apply to SLO because I didn’t want to be in a small town area. I’m More of a city guy.

@Pats1229: Sorry Senior moment, you did state CPP instead of SLO sorry!! I personally prefer CPP to SJSU. I found the SJSU campus very nice but area surrounding the campus questionable. If you like the city, then SJSU may be more to your liking. Good Luck

@Gumbymom no worries! What about the surrounding area did you find to be questionable?

@Pats1229: I am really not a “city” girl. Too many people and too much traffic reminds too much of LA. I think the San Jose area has a lot to offer, but you really need to check it out for yourself.

Thanks for the info! I appreciate very your input very much. It’s been very tough trying to make up my mind. I am sure after I visit sjsu I will be better off in my decision making process. @Gumbymom

I like CPP environment better, it’s an agriculture school maybe that’s why I like( I go there to buy citrus trees and farm produce) , I think it’s beautiful with lots of horses.
I remember SJSU is more gritty but it’s near Silicon Valley so for your major, it’s actually does not matter.

@DrGoogle true they both are great schools. I need to go to sjsu to see how it is over there. I’ve been to cal poly. I’m also curious as to if it’s hard to get classes at either one of those schools.

You need to go to each forum and ask. For my daughter, it has not affected her yet.

Which school does she go to?

All three of those schools have about half of frosh living in the dorms, which may be a reasonable proxy for resident (versus commuter) students. SFSU’s location in San Francisco may not be the most interesting to many people looking for a San Francisco living experience.

Where would you like to work after graduation? Smaller companies are more prone to recruiting at local schools.

Goverment type, or even as you mentioned smaller company type. Just want to get my feet wet so to speak. I’ve been leaning more towards sjsu and cpp because they seem to have the better reputation for CE. are you familiar with those two universities?@ucbalumnus

By “where would you like to work”, I meant region. Each school will likely have most local recruiters who have no need or desire to travel to recruit at a more distant school.

Oh haha I would not mind working around the pomona area. There are a lot of nice places to work around pomona. I’ve never been up to San Jose, but I am pretty sure I would not mind working there or in SF.
