Cpw

How many of you are going to CPW w/o your parents?

im going solo! =]

Me too. Too expensive for more than one person. :P.

Yayyy frequent flier miles though...

(And those of you who do go with parents, don't expect to see them AT ALL all weekend. And any parents who are going, do NOT try to hang with your students that weekend: that is NOT what it's about! Say 'bye when you drop them off at Sala de Puerto Rico, and meet up with them at a pre-arranged time and place when you are leaving. And if you pass by them during the weekend somewhere, pretend you don't notice them.

I speak from personal experience. ;) )

I'm going alone, mostly because of the cost.

im going to alone, mostly cause i honestly don't want my parents to come.

also, what do they mean by casual clothes? how casual?

no one is going to grade you on apparel. wear what you would be most comfortable in? if you like to climb and explore and stuff there'll be plenty of that... so maybe bring some old, dispensable kind of clothes as well.

i was just wondering if like jeans are too casual.....i don't want to be disrespectful if everyone is like wearing nice clothes.

I'm just taking the commuter rail in by myself. I live about 35-40 minutes away, so it's no big deal.

Haha, no way!

You can wear jeans, we definitely will be. :)

If you want to go to frat parties on Fri/Sat nights, you might bring a clubby-type outfit, but other than that wear whatever you'd normally wear to school.

We can go to frat parties?? Cool... :)

I'm so psyched to see MIT again!! :) And missing school, and meeting all these crazy smart people... and seeing my WTP girls... :) Only 2 weeks from now.

omg i wanna go to frat parties!

also if our host has a car, can she take me to boston to shop? lol never shopped in boston before.

You really don't need a car. It's actually much much easier to take the T. Fare is $1.25 one way, and you don't have to repay to switch lines. I'd recommend Harvard Square (red line), but that's just me.

I second what spiraloflife says... plus odds are your host doesn't have a car. :)

If you want to go into Boston, you can take either the #1 MBTA bus across the river from 77 Mass Ave, or you can take one of the (free) MIT shuttles, the Daytime Boston shuttle or SafeRide.

Or, realistically, you could walk. The weather should be nice, and Boston's only a quarter of a mile away.

I have a couple of links to popular Boston shopping areas in this blog entry. Plus a map!

EDIT: And there will be approximately five zillion frat parties during CPW. You'll get a schedule when you check in. (Freaking out parents: they're dry parties!)

how cold is it in april... do i need a sweatshirt or something... or are just t-shirts okay?

The average high in Boston in April is 56 degrees F, and the average low is 41. So on an average day, you'd be totally fine with a light jacket. Of course, you might want to bring a sweatshirt -- or piece of rain apparel -- just to be on the safe side.

At the risk of jinxing everything, I will say that CPW is almost always a really nice weekend. People joke about MIT breaking out the CPW weather machine to make nice sunny days for the prefrosh. :)

are any of the mit jacks preparing for another possible hack from caltech? =P Must've been pretty amusing last year haha

The beauty of New England weather is that in april it can:
A) Be gorgeous and sunny and 70 degrees F
B) Be rainy and disgusting and 50 degrees F
C) Be snowing (boooo) and 25 degrees F
etc. etc. etc. The possibilities are endless.

<3 New England (I'm from NH, so I'm used to it)

My whole family is travelling across the country just for MIT right now....and hopefully for other colleges ;)

wow... snow in april hehe... we've been in t-shirts for a while now lol
i'm looking forward to this new perspective i've never been in cold weather in my life. i mean i wear a jacket and stuff but only in like january/december... and a little bit of november
