Hello! With all the hubbub of the March SAT, I hope to seek advice from those people with the desired 800 CR.

My situation:
- In practice tests, I always get four wrong in CR. ALWAYS.
- It does not matter whether the passage is easy or hard. Four is the magic number.
- Vocab is not the problem. I scarcely get any vocab wrong.
- It sucks. Yeah.

How can you increase CR when you're stuck at a certain point? Please do not tell me that I've peaked; I like to think of myself as an optimist. Are there any (text)books to read that can help me get those few questions?

I appreciate your willingness to help me out, but I find that after I take the test, I slowly reason with myself as to why the other answer was right. Sometimes I get it right away, but sometimes I shrug it away.

Are there any (text)books to read to help? Shall I practice for SAT Lit to increase my CR?

Okay, during the test, are you torn on which answer to pick and you end up picking the wrong one? Or are you just oblivious to the fact that the question is difficult and you’ve just got it wrong?

you can miss at least 2 questions and still get an 800. so if they take off 1/4 of a point for each skipped answer…are you usually able to get a feeling for which questions you aren’t sure about? cause then you could skip your magic 4…

tim739’: I think it is a little bit of both, actually I would like to acquire the skills to answer the more difficult questions so I wouldn’t have to debate between two answer choices.

wjhsxc: I’ve never tried that. But I’m one of those people whose pride is so overwhelming that I ALWAYS pick an answer for the chance that it’ll get me an extra point. Maybe I should change that…

I disagree; don’t skip questions unless you have no clue on what’s going on. Remember, you only lose 1/4 of a point, and if you get just one question out of those four right, you get a whole point.

Canned_dice, I used to have the same problem and here’s my advice. When you’re looking at your question, make sure you have a quotes to back up your answer. Sometimes we just get this ‘sense’ that the passage has a ‘sarcastic’ tone without even really having any evidence. Sprinkled throughout the passage will always be these quotes that just give it away, make sure you read through the passage once so you can catch some of these quotes. If you find yourself struggling for an answer, skim through the passage quickly and a quote will give it away.

yea, i agree with tim, i like to think of SAT CR passage based questions as like a debate, where u have to find EVIDENCE FROM WITHIN THE PASSAGE to back your answer up. as soon as u find something in the passage that backs ur answer up, ur good to go.
