CR is killing me!!! help!!!!!!!

okay... i'm really bad in the CR section (500-570s)
i bought the grammatix guide
i've been trying to do 3 verbal sections per day on the 10 real SAT book and applying the grammatix method.
At first i got 5wrong, i was very excited. But then when i try to look for patterns, it just gets worse..... from 5 to 7 to 8, and now i'm missing half of the questions.... whats wrong?????

i personally like CR better than analogies. at least in CR you can figure out why you're wrong. or why the answer is that.

I would get the PR book instead for CR...the strategies are a lot better and make a lot more sense.

like i said before, the only two books you should get are PR and kaplan. these are the only companies who really took the test and dissected it.

How can I at least get 600+ on the verbal portion? Help please...

verbal only has three sections right? sentence completing, short passage, and long ones. which one are you having trouble?

Sorry...almost all of them.....I only have 450 on the verbal portion.....

Sentence completion: study vocab

short passages: read question first, then read and answer

Long passages: read first, then answer questions.

short passages: 3 paces
long passages : 2 paces?

check the other thread, the 800 one with 7 pages. i posted there. :)

I second sr6622. try to focus more on what exactly is stated in the passage. your answer is there.

I still don't understand sr6622's strategy for the long passage reading

he means you should first read the passages, then answer the questions. I agree because reading the passage first allows you to comprehend the main idea of the text and afterwards to get back to the precise paragraph the question is reffering to.

Thank you.
But how can I do it-reading the passage, then the paragraphs again- punctually?

well the idea is you read the passage(or skim it...this depends on how you work better-you have to choose your own strategies), then go to the questions, and, while having an idea about what the text is about, you can check with the sentence( or paragraph) the question is reffering to to make sure your answer is correct. I dunno if I make myself clear enough....sorry about that. hope this helps, though.

do it different ways... and find what works for you

Different ways?Do you mean skim or read thoroughly the passage first?

Do you mean that I would try to answer the questions by my memory ,then check their accuracy by reading the paragraphs(or sentences)?

try both... see which way you perform better and stick to it

Thanks,7 days for a try
