cr is the only section i have trouble with. how to increase?

So...I get around 700s in math and writing, but I'm having some trouble with CR, so are there any recommended techniques that would help me on this section? I think I'm mainly just having trouble processing out the passages since I'm not a very fast reader. Usually, I'll have trouble determining the difference between two answers...

I'm also taking ELITE SAT Prep. I'm into the third week, and my reading score fluctuates. The first week, I got a 510. The second week, I got a 470 :( and this week I got a 480........

I'm going into junior year so I'll be taking the SATs soon :/ I am not happy with my CR score. :(

So, are CR scores easy to raise? Any advice? I think my reading score is never going to increase.......GAH.

I used to be like this with 800s on M/W and terrible CR. But I found the only way to improve my performance on passages was practice, practice, practice. Only then did I get used to the “boring, drawn-out, drab” sorts of passages and become able to find the answers more quickly.

When you are down to 2 answers, make sure that the one you choose is DIRECTLY supported by something in the passage. Don’t infer the answer unless it says to. Usually, there is going to be a specific statement that will reveal the answer (even moreso on the ACT). So be sure to take a step back and see if yr answer is really supported in the passage.

Also, the best way to avoid the boredom of the passages is to mentally tell yourself that what you are reading is incredibly interesting, if not downright fascinating. If you can convince yourself of that, you will pay attention and absorb more. Doing this got me a 730; while not an amazing score it isn’t awful.

Mom here–Many young people do not like to read, but increasing vocabulary and speed are both helpful. Reading is one of the best ways to improve these areas. So read anything you like, but read in your free time. Improving your reading–not only your scores–will pay off in many ways once you start college.

Practice and make sure you know why every single answer is the way that it is.

@sa0209, about how many sat tests do you think you took/absorbed before reaching the score you got? (and what was your final score anyways?)

I agree with the posts above; my scores improved immensely with practice and I also followed the “motto” of “ELIMINATION.” Train yourself to not immediately pick the answer that seems right, but eliminate the wrong ones and have a reason why they are wrong. Hope this helps!

My daughter increased 70 pts in 8 weeks (march test -June Test). She used the collegeboard blue book and online study guide. She did timed sections and did two complete exams per week. Each night she did 20 vocabulary words before going to bed. Hope that this is helpful and good luck!

me too CR 550 too bad!!

Same here haha. BUT I do pretend I am interested. and I do try to get thigns directly from passage… but it never works out. Worst part is that I get little vocab wrong at all. :[
