Only discuss in this thread if you had the Lewis Map passage.

stuff i remember...... dry humour, antiquidated and thats about all i remember

Some of the answers I remember:

1) didactic

2) omnipotent

3) dry humor

4) suspended

5) Lewis liked sports that allowed freedom of personal expression

6) Lewis' tone was ironic when he talked about the real-estate people's idea of heaven.

7) The narrator felt a tingling in his arms to convey a sense of physical anticipation.

8) The map is described as if it were animate.

9) The narrator reacts to Lewis' description of the wild river by visualizing the river in two completely different states (i.e. developed and pure)

10) Alaska is used as an example of a place that is either wild or untamed (answer was something like that, can't exactly remember)

That's all I remember.

Anyone remember the vocab questions?

ajkcorner1

awesome, all of my answers were same with urs (if no.10 is the same as well)

for number 10, i thought i chose "undeveloped"

wat were the other options for 2) that ajkcorner1 has said? i dont think I put omnipotent for that one

Yeah, that's what I must have chosen too.

10) Alaska is used as an example of a place that is "undeveloped".

Do you guys remember any other questions? I think I've covered them all.

no_novice: the only other answer choice I remember is "deft", which is an accurate description of Lewis' hand movements but does not convey the sense of power (potent = power) that Lewis seems to have over the map.

I put what ajkcorner1 had for number 10, and I used omnipotent.

Where was the question for didactic and dry humour (I don't remember, long night)?

r u sure it is animate? I think u put cryptic b/c it was being unfolded

I put animate because it was moving, and didn't want its edges opened.

I'm pretty sure it is "animate" because the features of the map (i.e. flowing rivers) come to life under the omnipotence of Lewis' hands.

i changed it from cryptic to animate. was that good?

i thought how it was beign unraveled was cryptic. it seemed like they were exploring new territory.

i put cryptic, the map wasn't full of life just because it folded in

what about the short passages (did it have any?)?

map is giving up its secrets by being unraveled, so how could it be cryptic?

for 10 i put "undevelopped" Alaska. (b/c they talked about no real estate ppl there)

and for his hand, i said "expressive", not "omnipotent". i think im wrong.

I think the short passages had to do with resistance movements and slang words.

1) The first sentence serves to define the term "movement" in the context of the passage.

2) Black artists and writers helped to alter the perceptions of blacks in art.

3) The purpose of the passage is to analyze the durability of the term "cool".

4) Fashion is used in the passage as an example of something "ephemeral" (i.e. short-lived).

cryptic: mysterious in meaning; puzzling; ambiguous
animate:alive; possessing life

animate seems like a reach for me. the map is cryptic because the rivers drawn on the map were hard to follow and understand. atleast that's what i reasoned, might be wrong

snap, we got the same answers
