CR Question

Can you guys help me with this passage? Thanks!

The belief that it is harmful to the Black community for authors to explore the humanity of our leaders can have troubling effects. At the least, it promotes the belief that our heroes have to be perfect to be useful. At worst, it censors our full investigation of Black life. If our paintings of that life are stock and cramped, their colors drab and predictable, the representations of our culture are likely to be untrue. They will not capture the breadth and complexity of Black identity.

The passage implies that Black leaders have sometimes been portrayed as being:

a. overly sentimental
b. deeply complex
c. above reproach
d. without regret
e. beyond understanding

In the sentence that contains, "At the least, it promotes the belief...useful."

What does the "it" refer to exactly? (This isn't an SAT Question)

Lol I just did this passage yesterday, for some reason my CR skills have improved dramatically since the last time I took the SATs and I seem to be scroing consistent 750s now…But anyways, I remember getting them all right on this passage.

The answer is C because the passage suggests that the black leaders are portrayed as “perfect,” or incapable of having anything derogatory said about them. Therefore they’d be beyond reproach.

For your other question, the “it” refers to the “the belief.”
