CR question

For those who already have TPR 11 practice tests, could you turn to page 407 and explain the answer to question 23 for me? I vacillated between A and E, but decided to choose A. The explanation given in the book was not convincing enough for me.

In E, "wide ranging artistic and social interests"? I wonder if "interest" is relevant for the question is asking about Pavlova's work, not Pavlova herself. And I don't see "artistic" mentioned at all in the passage where this is stated.

Meanwhile, in A, "utilitarian thrust" means something practical in her work. Her work is criticised for not addressing an important contemporary social problem because the critics do not consider "education of women" a problem at all. Does that not mean the critics did not recognize the utilitarian thrust of her work?
