This question belongs to section 3, Jan 2009 test.
If in 50 years' time mosl Bajau are land-bound stock- brokers, what will the sea be to them except somewhere for family outings and expensive water sports? or what use to
future generations is their present intricate understanding of the ocean? If there is a scientific rather than a sentimental answer, it must be one analogous to recognizing the paramount importance of maintaining the diversity of species. The more the world becomes politically, economically, and culturally centralized, the more homogenized its ways of
living, the more the dangers of sameness become apparent.

The statement "If ... species" serves primarily to:
a) question the significance of the evidence presented
b) explaint why the transition of the Bajau from sea to land would be so significant
c) illustrate why the trend toward a homogeneous Bajau culture could actually be promising
d) show how technological advances can inhibit human sensitivities.
e) describe one unique relationship between the Bajau and the ocean.

Can anyone explain to me why the answer is B? I think the transition of the Bajau from sea to land, according to the passage, is detrimental. Why is it significant?

Thanks!
