Hi! Well, I've been a long-time reader of this website, seeing as it often pops up as a result on my Google searches. Anyway, I am a junior at a public high school on Long Island; it is not very prestigious... maybe a handful of grads go to top schools, hardly anyone ever gets into an Ivy school (some have gone to Cornell in the past three years, this year I know of two who are going). Also, my HS is not very competitive in terms of academics...I scored in the 99th percentile for the SAT with a superscore of 2180, which I was pleased with, but is not really competitive enough for Ivies. I took the SAT I this January for the first time:

660 Math
700 CR
770 CW
10 Essay

Then, under the advisory of my parents (who are Asian and therefore expected much higher), I took them again, focusing on preparing for the math section, which is ironically my weakest section. I took the March 2009 SAT I, receiving:

670 Math
740 CR
670 CW (eek)
10 Essay

I also took the ACT, receiving a composite of 31:
35 - English
33 - R
31 - M
25 - S (really screwed my score up.. ha)
Writing scores are not yet posted for my test.

Now, what I am wondering is, should I take the SAT I again, in either Sept. or Oct 2009, or should I take the ACT, or both? Also, in terms of summer programs, does anyone have any recommendations/know any sources?

I’m not sure about the ACT, but i think u should take the SAT again, becuz that does no harm to you since you can pick your best score from each section now? I guess.

So,yeah, if you take it again, you’ll have one more choice to pick!

Well, I’m not sure how many more you want to take, but I’d say there’s definetely no harm in retaking the ACT. Because you’re other scores are so good, I’d say there’s no reason you couldn’t improve your science, too. Just take some practice tests. My science was awful the first time I took it, but my others were pretty good. When I retook, however, I went up eight points. I don’t see why yours couldn’t, especially considering my math, English, and reading scores match yours almost exactly.

I think your ACT score is better than your SAT score. The only low score is Science…so if you can just bring that one section up (do a bunch of practice tests from the ACT book) your score will increase pretty drastically.

Don’t think about it too much that you’re stressed out though. Just think about it enough to be motivated. Hm…I don’t know if that makes sense. But really, just give it your best shot and don’t over think it.

I think you can definitely raise that ACT score. ONly thing holding you back is the Science. If you can get your science to a 30 or something, your score would go up to 32 or higher…which is really good.

Go for the ACT IF you think you can score 30+ on it. It’s all about experience. Skip the background info and go straight to questions and charts. Make sure you time yourself when doing practice tests seeing how most ppl fail the section because of bad time management.
