crap crap CRAP! ... senior year grades

So I STUPIDLY fooled around last semester (1st sem of my senior year) and got umm pretty sad grades, as in 2-3 B's and 3-4 A's. I was hoping to pull my GPA and class rank up from junior year, but now it's obvious that's not going to happen. Am I pretty much screwed for the Ivies and other top colleges? How much do these colleges weigh mid-term grades? Thanks!

i think you will be fine

okay there are literally 500 threads on this, and it seems like theres a new one every single day. u have to understnad that every skool is different in there weighing of mid year grades, so it is impossible to know how it will affect you. if it is evident that u fooled around last semester and you grades didnt drop just b/c the classes were just harder, then thats not good at all. there really is nothing you can do anymore, but submit a letter or something giving reasons why you grades dropped. saying you fooled around won't cut it. you need a legitamite reason why, like the class was hard and everyone did bad. read the other 500 threads on this topic and you'll basically hear the same thing.

Even with straight A's and a weighted gpa of over 4.0 the Ivies are a reach for most students. Ten percent of applicants are accepted and the majority of those are carrying over 4.0.
I hope you had some safeties and matches on your list.

^colleges aren't looking for 4.0 students, just to let you know

You will be fine... A lot of senior grades drop b/c of stress, applications, leadership, etc

alright thanks for the replies guys. and nmehta, i looked but i didn't find any so sorry if i annoyed you

i dunno man.. colleges really dont want white and asian nerds that wont contribute anything to the school, but sit in the dorm all day and study... if i was an admissions officer i would accept a 3.7 gpa, 2000 SAT kid that plays club soccer or wants to join the school band than a 4.0, 2250+ SAT nerd with nothing interesting about theme except a few clubs they have done JUST for college and not out of their own interest

thats the way REAL admissions SHOULD be done

You're not screwed for Ivies, but your chances are lowered. Don't worry, though, hopefully you applied to some good matches and safeties where you can be just as happy. And hopefully, top colleges will look beyond one semester of grades.

I really appreciate the stereotype. I'm glad to know that as an Asian nerd (which I am), what I really should be doing is sitting in my room all day and studying.

firebird- although i don't agree with your stereotype (i'm an "asian nerd" who also plays a ton of tennis, holds some pretty nice leadership positions, and does a decently significant amount of volunteer work), i do agree with your opinion that colleges should change their admissions policy to focus less on pure stats. however, i think that is what they are trying to do nowadays, hence the emphasis on "well-rounded" students

proletariat- thanks for your honesty! i've been accepted to my safties/matches already, so at least i have somewhere to go :)

First semester grades from senior year are the most crucial.

i hate sarcastic comments

^I do as well

i am asian... HAHA

admissions is really about money... colleges want students with high SATS and gpa so they graduate at their school and don't drop out... everything really comes down to money... I got like 10 emails from northwestern and duke telling me to apply because they like my stats... but i have a 29 ACT...

MIT sent me a paper letter from the director of minority recruitment saying I have a good shot at MIT and they want me to apply. I didn't.

These schools want your money... it's like marketing.. don't get excited when you receive emails and letters like this.

At ivies, academics are not the deciding factors... I've known people who've gotten 4 Bs in high school yet get into Harvard... Obviously, they had something that the 4.0/2400 robots didn't have
