..by two minutes. Yale's common app was due 12/31 and I sent it two minutes after midnight. Will they still count it? Will I be penalized in some way?
damn my procrastination!

I'm sorry you're going to be going to community college now =(

aww, please be serious. I'm freaking out...
Is there a grace period where they accept late applications?

I think you were ridiculous to cut it so close regardless. But I don't think they're going to care much. But I seriously hope you weren't doing it that way to make a statement cuz I don't really know what you'd be saying that could be construed as positive.

Most probably they will most likely still read it.

you're right, there's no way to make this look positive. It was simply procrastination at its purest form

You want to go to Yale but you can't manage your time well enough to send a completed application in a day early?

It doesn't sound to me like you really want to get accepted... just my take on it

It's not yet midnight where I am right now. Because of time zones, I suspect that almost everyone in the world has a grace period.

I wouldn't worry about it. While it doesn't exactly look good, the admissions officers are surprisingly easygoing. Remember that they get thousands of applications, and they won't be inspecting the time for each one. And your application probably won't be looked at for another two weeks, at least. If they are going to admit you, two minutes isn't going to make a difference. =)

Haha, I highly doubt it was to "make a statement."

I honestly don't know if they will or will not accept it.
All I can say is if you don't get into Yale, it will not be the end of the world. Go somewhere else, do something AMAZING and successful and awesome...
and then feel content knowing Yale won't be able to add you to their notable alumni list or whatever. Best of luck in life, and Happy New Year.

Common App Help files. Search for deadline. Here's what you get.

Most colleges will accept the submission if it is within a reasonable time period around their deadline.

I think 3 minutes qualifies as reasonable.

I submitted it 10 minutes late b/c the payment refused to go through for the longest time...should we email them explaining, or is a few minutes after alright? My friend who applied EA was still considered though she applied at 12:30 a.m. 11/2.

A few people did this for EA and there wasn't an issue.

Regular Decision Application Deadline | News | Office of Undergraduate Admissions

They're accepting until Jan. 3rd.

If you were able to submit the application, they left the application open. This is common.

I can't speak for all schools, but at UVa, we don't even see the date of submission on the file when we read it. We don't read into the date.
