Ok. Its friday right now, and finals week at my school has just ended (we had to skooch finals week much later in the year because WA state was hit with a pretty bad snow storm this year). I think i did extremely well on my finals and i studied my ass off for it (like total of 40 hours.... pshh.... minus the short breaks). So today, i took my AP Calculus finals (my last finals test), and there is a possiblity i could of gotten a 100% on that SOB test. BUT ANYWAYS, yesterday, my throat started to hurt. Now, i'm wrapped in blankets. Its only a cold, not a flu, but you know how those first days of having a cold are killer. So yeah, BUT, i have freaking ACT's next week, and this will be my last final time taking it. Basically everybody has a cold here, so i'm not suprised... but COME ON!!!! ACT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How can i prepare while sick, and how can i relieve the severity of my cold.... and possibly desecrate this illness before ACT's come up. I'm currently taking alot of Vitamin C, Tylenol/Nyquil crap twice a day, Ginseng, vitamins, tea, and tylenol. HELP ME!!!!!

for one, you could sleep--
I sympathize with how addicting CC is, but maybe being up at midnight when you are sick and stressed is not the best idea.

sleep! you should be fine by next week.

Now that your finals are over you should have more free time... I recommend you spend that free time sleeping! Seriously, if you power sleep for a couple of days you might start feeling better and then you'll still have half a week to study.

I assume you are a junior, if so don't stress, just retake it later if you are not happy with the results.

sleep .

Never take Nyquil during the day. It makes you drowsy. Don't take it at night unless you can't sleep otherwise (can't breathe, too much coughing) and only take it for a night or two. It may disrupt your sleep schedule. Drugs like Nyquil, Dayquil, and Tylenol might make you feel better temporarily, but won't get you over the cold any faster.

what kind of fool studies 40 hours for a measly final...especially in calc?!?

i also say sleep but if you have the time, you could always open your ACT prep book

or just cancel and take it on another date.

Sleep, and tea!

Don't take any unnecessary medication and chill out. Your body's not going to heal if it's constantly stressed. :]

Sleep. You've probably been studying for awhile for the ACT, so a few extra days of practice tests and cramming won't help much. So stop freaking out about the test itself and focus on getting better. Which means sleep and lots of it. I also recommend tea and hot showers.

don't worry about last minute studying and cramming. sleeping and recovering is more important.

How is this your last time taking it if you're a sophomore?

I wouldn't worry about it-- you seem smart and the ACT is pretty straight forward. If you have studied earlier you should retain most of the knowledge. Just sleep, take Vitamin C tablets, lots of hot liquids, and just rest.

Hopefully all you will have is congestion by the time the ACT rolls around. Get Afrin-- only use it on the day you take the ACT because it can cause addiction really easily. It will clear your congestion for 8 hours--its amazing. I actually had the same problem like you when I took my ACT in september and I did fine.

Rest, that's all you can do. A cold is a virus, medication can't make it go away...you just have to wait it out. Take Vitamin C, and drink lots of liquids. If your throat hurts, try Halls Fruit Breezers; they'll relieve the pain.

Good luck with the ACT

About that 40 hours thing, i was only sarcastic. Didn't you notice i said "...pshhh... minus my short breaks". LOL. and i spent those " 40 hours minus break time" studying for AP Calculus, AP World History, AP Chemistry, blah, blah, blah. You can't ace a AP final without studying your ass off... unless you paid a ton of attention throughout the whole semester. Also, i didn't stay up until midnight. Its probably because our time zones are different. I slept at 9 yesterday... and i got like 15 hours of sleep. LOL

Also, this is my last chance because i want to get accepted into a special program in the University of Washington that allows high school sophomores to become a full-time Honors Program student in the UW. don't call me crazy... i'm 14 and i can handle AP calc, AP World history, AP Chem, AP Physics, and AP Biology. I think i'm ready for college (my GPA is about 3.9 right now). I also want to get a jumpstart because i am planning on getting a PhD in Medicine, so i need the extra time...

and yes.... I DO HAVE A LIFE. XD LOL. I'm asian, but my parents don't really push me to do things that hardcore asian parents want their kids to do. i find joy from knowledge. i have a ton of hobbies (fishing, mountain biking, sports especially football and volleyball, caring for the whole array of pets i have- 2 dogs, 10 fish, 1 toad, 2 frogs, going to movies with friends, blah blah). SO PLEASE, don't insult me by saying i don't have a life. it really hurts inside when you guys say that XD LOL

You'll probably do well on the ACT anyway -- I'd worry more about the other students in the room. You can still study while you're sick (though it probably won't help much since from what I understand it's not really a knowledge-based test).

I remember last year I was coughing all through my AP Government exam (I had a fever) and the assistant principal had to escort me outside to get a drink of water. I felt more sorry for the hundred or so other kids in the gymnasium who had to listen to me.

Good luck! I got a 5 -- I'm sure you'll do well too.

Bassmaster, if you don't feel well by test day, just take the advice you wrote in a different thread : "...Just use notes and put them under your sleeves, under your shirt, between your legs, on your arm, under your TI calculator lid, on your palm, etc.
