Craziest admission stories

Has anyone ever gotten in with ridiculously low SAT scores or GPA? I currently have a 3.32 uw and 3.71 weighted GPA. I heard that the average for Syracuse is like 3.6. Anyway...crazy admission stories will make me feel better. LOL

Stats from my school last yr. hope they helped. it startled me how the top of the list were waitlisted.

at my high school, a few kids got in with GPA's hovering in the low 80's with very low SATs to boot. Most kids who got in and went had around a B+ to A- unweighted average and SATs in the 1100 (out of 1600) range.

Thanks munkeegirl, the info. did help once i got past all of the numbers. LOL

That's really weird. Why would the exceptional students according to Grades and Test Scores be waitlisted, then everyone else is basically accepted.

we dont take kindly to smart people on this campus :p

tbh you will find that many students here are dumb as a rock - they're far more interested in how they look or which celebrity couple just did what. Yeah, I hate them and I hate SU for accepting them. But if you really look, you will find that most of the
smart
kids stick together (in general - by way of the classes they take, the clubs they're in, and the lectures/events/conferences they attend). So there is a sizable group of non-dumb people, they just take a while to find :-)

I think the reason Syracuse waitlisted those highly qualified students is because they probably think those students are using Syracuse as a safety. Believe it or not I heard NYU did something like this with Harvard-type applicants a few years ago. Munkeegirl, those stats seem similar to my high school (Bronx Sciene) in NYC. Do you go there too, or Stuy?

QNyergrl might have something there. I totally understand why they would do that.........interesting.
