Ok so I am a Vanderbilt hopeful with little to no chance planning to apply ED1 and pray a lot. So the question here is does anyone who has been admitted this year or recently with pretty awful stats or gaps who would be willing to share? I would love to see the stats or holes to make me hopeful and/or more realistic. I don't mean 3.4 weighted GPA's with 2 years of field hockey. I mean atypical for Vanderbilt.

You should really consider whether or not you would fit in academically at Vanderbilt. It’s a very rigorous academic environment. Vanderbilt doesn’t turn down students with low GPAs JUST because they aren’t the top applicants-- it’s also because their academic history reflects they might not perform well and be happy.

Some students get straight A’s in highschool and still struggle academically at Vanderbilt. You can imagine a student who didn’t perform well in HS would have even more difficulty.

I’m not saying this applies to you, it’s just something to think about.

@Pancaked I understand your concern. I have always taken very rigorous courses in a relatively difficult school. I will have taken 9 AP’s by the end of senior year. But my junior year grades suffered because of some lack of motivation and other factors. They aren’t awful, it’s just that Vanderbilt has very little leeway for any applicant who isn’t the best.

I was a freshman last year and with UW 3.65 and W 4.0, I was among the lowest of anyone I ever spoke with. A great majority of the class was top 5 of their graduating classes. Best of luck!

Sounds like you would do fine here. Best of luck. Having 9 APs will certainly help make up for a lower GPA.

I’m not going to give specifics but my grades were far from stellar and I was admitted this year. Do your best and apply anyways, you never know.
