Crazy not to go to CH?

@college67‌ will do plan to go to Explore Carolina too, I wish they had another one sooner.

Unfortunately, it looks like all the Explore Carolina sessions are now full?

@NCrent give admissions a call. They might be able to add you.

We had a similar experience. We went to an special admission day and the information session was awful. The tour guide was good. Daughter was not impressed and was not overly interested in the school. Went to explore day which was much better but daughter was still undecided. Got invited to Scholarship Day and she really was impressed with her potential future classmates and was sold on the school. Scholarship day was run by a different department and they really put on a class act. Admission really needs to step up their game.

She in now a sophomore and has really enjoyed her classes. She has loved all (except for one) her professors.

@noname87 “Admission really needs to step up their game.”, I agree. The kids are told that they will feel it when they walk on the right campus and UNC isn’t doing much in my experience. If we hadn’t looked so many other places, that tried so much harder, it wouldn’t have mattered as much.

We go back to UNC tomorrow to see visit the SON and my daughter will attend a class. This is my last attempt to sway her away from the HC at the other school she is considering.

I’d like to offer an opinion, though I’m sure by now your daughter may have decided where she would like to go. I am a current Nursing student at UNCW, and I was also accepted into the Honors College. UNC-Wilmington’s nursing program is really exceptional, and would offer a GREAT experience for your daughter. Instead of a class of 100 - 120 students in her cohort in a class and one time a year to apply, she would get the opportunity to be in a cohort of 50 and could apply in spring or fall. It’s so much more personable, and more individualized. The application process is solely based on grades, there is no points systems that favorite students based off Honors, CNA status, It’s really a great opportunity, because all you have to worry about is focusing on grades until you get into the program.
Once in the program, UNC -W has a simulation lab in addition to clinicals that UNC doesn’t offer. Another student in my cohort has a sister who just graduated from UNC. They have similar simulation robots that we use, but according to her sister, they were used solely for mid-terms and finals, while I’m in the sim lab at least once a week in addition to clinicals.
And, if your daughter really wants to continue her education after, she has a better shot for grad school at UNC if she is not a UNC grad.
All in all, there’s a lot of factors to consider, and I wish your daughter luck on her journey towards nursing school! No matter where she goes to school, she’ll always be a great RN, all three schools will teach her well.

@sandyscrubs (great name btw) thanks for weighing in. I think D1 is going to end up at ECU. We went back to UNC SON last week and she felt nothing. I agree that UNCW has a great program, it was the first HC that we visited, and everyone we know there loves the school, but D1 likes ECU over Wilmington for some reason. But I agree with your thoughts about the other schools being more personable and I do think that an HC at a less competitive school (than UNC) is the best fit for my child. All her friends are going to UNC and she doesn’t want to follow the herd.

Best of luck to her then! I’ve got a friend over at ECU for nursing. She hasn’t gotten in yet, she applies this semester I think, but she loves it there. Hopefully your daughter will too! I totally understand not wanting to follow the heard. If you don’t mind me asking, is she trying to get into ECU honors or just staying in the regular college?
And thanks, I spent a little bit of time trying to come up with something clever, haha

@SandyScrubs‌ she is in HC, and she has early assurance for grad school at ECU. But she did not get Scholars(full ride), which would have been wonderful and would have sealed the deal. When we went for interviews she met some great people and she feels really good about HC at ECU. It is just hard at her HS, no one understands her choice and give her a hard time about it.
