Create a major?

Dear all,

I was wondering two things:

1). At Brown, is it true that you can essentially “create” or design your own major of choice? OR, does this mean that you can alter a major’s requirements to make it different?

2). Is the music program at Brown worth looking into for somebody interested in a career in music as a performer or professor?

3). ok, i lied!! I have three things. IF, and only if, you can create or partially design a major at Brown, and the music major is not worth looking into, could somebody MAKE his or her own music major in a sense?

Yes if you're willing to make the case to a number of administrators and get the right support. You can also try to alter a major's requirements within the department depending on the people involved and your agument it may work

I don't know

Probably if it is sufficiently interdisciplinary to be beyond the scope of the standard conc

Yes

Performer, probably not. Professor, sure.

Depends what you want to do... but as fr4edmurtz said, you'd have to convince the administration that you're doing something sufficiently distinct from the existing music degree paths.

as a performer, depends what you want to do, we have one of the only digital music programs in the nation. However if you are doing more traditional music than I would say there are better programs than Brown's.
