Create your own major at UCLA, how hard is it to do? -- Individual major

I am a transfer student admitted to UCLA as an English major. However, within the last year I’ve become really interested in Ethnic Studies and/or American Studies, both majors which are offered at UC Berkeley and UC San Diego but not at UCLA. The most similar major to these subjects is American Literature and Culture which is heavy on literature classes and but less so on history and social science.

I have heard that the College of Letters and Sciences offers an “individual major” which is part of an honors program. This allows students to create their own major which specializes in a particular area of focus not offered in the official UCLA majors. Could I base an individual major on a degree offered by other UC campuses? I’m visiting UCLA again next week; is there any way I could speak with a counselor about this? Any info you can share about individual majors would be greatly appreciated.
