Creating a whole new wardrobe

i agree. there are some things that girls wear that bug the **** out of me.

I only read some of the responses, but please don't get pleated khakis.

$2000 is a pretty damn large amount of money.

That said, if you want some real sartorial advice, read up on the following sites and forums:

www.askandyaboutclothes.com
www.styleforum.net

NerdyUSCgurl, sundresses or short short short skirt.

What about polo and oxford shirts with the college logo?

Why do you need a new wardrobe? Do you really want to waste 2 grand on something that you already have and thats gotten you through highschool? Maybe buy some stuff with the school or frat logo, but you could easily spend that 2 grand on something more useful, like books.
Of course, what do I know... I got a whole new wardrobe myself... Of course it was free and I don't have a choice on what I am allowed to wear... I guess that is the benefit of going to a military academy.

As I mentioned before, many HS boys cannot dress, they wear the same thing in 12 as they did in 8th, and some seniors just look really sloppy, so nothing wrong with not wanting to go to college looking like a hsschooler

And many Highschools, if you dress "better" you get harrassed or made fun of, and it just is easier to blend in and look like everyone else, while in college, a whole new environment-different city, climate, people, it is important to want to present yourself well...why not?

You don't have to be a fashionista, but why not feel comfortabole and "more grownup"

I dress in a way that if I ever meet a professional of my career field, I look like I'm a presentable person.

Guys what clothes do you REALLY like on women?

[/quote]

My button-down oxford and nothing else.

i know what i dont like: those damn ugg boots, sweats that say juicy or something tacky, and too much makeup. but lauddie is right, a girl wearing nothing but a button-down oxford is hot.

Woho, a thread for a European!

Jeans: A pair of good looking jeans should be essential in every mans' wardrobe. Of course "good looking" and "well fitted" jeans don't equal to really slim jeans. It depends on the look what is well fitted. But in general, I'd say that if a pair of jeans have lots of slack "that shouldn't be there", they do not fit well. Anyway, I'd recommend Swedish brands such as Acne, Cheap Monday and Nudie. They're really hot, and they won't ruin your budget.

http://62.181.215.102/media/ss06_lookbook_j.html
http://www.cheapmonday.com (really cheap, thus the name)
http://www.nudiejeans.com/start.php (rock 'n roll, baby)

Shirts: The same goes with shirts as with jeans. I like shirts, no, I love shirts! A warning though, do not, I repeat, DO NOT use button downs. I'm not trying to be a jerk, they just look terrible. Instead, use cut-away collars. They're much sexier, and they can be used for formal occasions as well. Button downs are incompatible with suits. I'd recommend:

http://www.tailorshirts.com (tailor made shirts for like $40!)

Shoes: Running shoes are out of the question. Instead, buy good looking sneakers. I love sneakers! You could also buy a couple of dressier shoes, because they go well with everything. If you combine your outfit well, it won't look the least bit pretentious, only...sexy.

Swear has lots of nice sneakers: http://www.swear-net.net/default.asp?do=1
Schmoooves are also cool: http://www.baggamenswear.co.uk/acatalog/Schmoove_shoes.html

Accessories: If you use a belt, it could be a good thing to remember that a belt in the same color as your shoes, brings "balance" to your outfit. Personally I don't follow this "rule" that much, instead I try to balance the colors in other ways. Anyway, it can be a good thing to remember.

This is what I'd buy:

Acne Jeans "Moc Raw": http://62.181.215.102/media/img/ss06_lookbook/popup/moc_raw_jg-021727.jpg

A striped cut-away shirt: http://www.ctshirts.co.uk/ProImages/SCPTLS_2.jpg (ignore the tie)

Dressier brown shoes: http://www.ctshirts.co.uk/ProImages/MPSBRB_1.jpg

To this I'd wear a slim, brown belt with a tiny buckle, a retro pilot watch (http://imgsrv.aeromatic1912.de/A1249/A1249-1.jpg) and a couple of classic Ray Ban 3025's (http://www.cxmoptik.se/images/rayban/3026.jpg)

If you wouldn't get the attention of the ladies dressed like this, you'd atleast get mine. ;) (no, I'm hetero, thanks for asking)

Anyway, if you don't like my recommendations, ignore them. You won't look good in clothes you're not comfortable in, no matter how hard you try. It may sound as a clich

Nice shirt, Balth! Is there anywhere in the states I could pick one of those up? (I'm in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania if it matters)

And yes, I've heard a lot of good about Nudie jeans.

"I repeat, DO NOT use button downs."

button down oxford shirts are hot.

I disagree with Balth. Button-down shirts are a staple of traditional American clothing. It's part of the original WASP-y, Ivy League uniform of Navy Blazer, Button-down oxford, Repp tie, and Grey flannel pants. Button-downs have their time and place; in fact, many Europeans, most notably Italians, wear button-downs. For example, this dashing man: http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4686/1648/1600/Italian-tie.jpg

It's all a matter of how you wear what you wear. Two people can be wearing the exact same outfit, but that outfit can look completely different depending on how it's worn. For example, little details such as the dimple in a tie or the shine of one's shoes can make one look simply dashing, while neglecting these details can make one look like a slob.

Once again, I highly recommend the following sites for some real sartorial advice (if you're a guy), rather than listening to high schoolers on a College forum who probably don't know the difference between a four-in-hand tie knot and a half-windsor.

www.styleforum.net
www.askandyaboutclothes.com

I was exaggerating a bit. A light blue button down shirt with beige chinos is perfect for at hot summers day. It's a very laid back outfit. I wouldn't wear it on a daily basis though, and definately not with a tie/suit.

i wear oxford shirts on daily basis, sometimes with a madras tie/repp tie. (never with a really formal tie though). I agree suits dont work with oxfords, but i only wear sportcoats. :)

Well, then you should continue wearing them!

If you feel comfortable, it really isn't my place to criticize. I was just giving my opinion on the issue, and I don't judge those who think otherwise. :)

depending on your girl friends, you may not want to shop with a girl.

i went shopping with several of my guy friends...drove them up the wall...LOL

I so agree with Jennchen. I think most of my guy friends would hate to shop with me. I have excellent taste and could help pick out some awesome things, but they would hate the experience. I love shopping and I could go all day. They would be bored out of their mind after about an hour.

i like things from gap. they're simple, yet look nice.
IMO, the whole torn jeans thing looks tacky.
and i'm a fan of chino/flat front shorts, not cargo. i do own some cargos but for the most part, i think straight shorts look better.
don't over do it with the labels. gap makes some nice labeless polos and tshirts.

i'm glad i go to UT, where nobody really cares what you wear. free tshirts are the best, or even just a burnt orange texas tee and you're good to go. anything works with a pair of jeans or shorts.

and for shoes, check our some crocs. they're these really comfy rubber clogs that look funny at first but they feel sooo good and you don't sweat in them. plus, they're a great conversation starter.

there are 2 types of prep look you can get: you can get a rugged prep look with AF, AE, hollister; and then you can get a classy, upclass prepatory look with Ralph Lauren, etc. and then there's Gap. simple yet great! =) i love their jeans.
