creative portfolios

Hey all,
I was wondering if any of you knew where I could find an example of a full creative portfolio list. I’m trying to make mine and I wish I had some reference.
Thanks

I'm not sure what you are asking about. Are you trying to put together a studio art portfolio or something else entirely? In terms of the common application supplement for art, I think it recommends no more than 20 images on cd, 8x10's or slides. As for seeing examples, hmm, I'm not sure about that. What might be helpful would be to look at websites of some schools, try to find images of student work. All the best.

ahh... sorry it is a list that highlights creative work accomplished. writing, video, art, photography, etc.
just wondering if anyone knew anything else about it

I would just stick everything on a disc if I were you. Sounds like you have a decent amount to submit, and that will keep everything nicely organized.

elven, Most colleges give very specific instruction on how to submit arts material. Check their websites under supplementary information. Artwork including photography can be submitted in slide form. Follow the instructions for maximum number and labeling. Make sure that the slides show a mastery of several media and that the slides are “professional” quality, e.g., no fingerprints or shadows.

Some colleges will accept prints, especially for photography. At the time that my son applied (three years ago) the schools did not accept CDs. That may have changed so check with the college. The admissions committee will pass the portfolio to the art department for evaluation.

Short examples of writing are sometimes welcome; sometimes not. Check with the school. One college, Wesleyan, said please don’t send us poetry! Have one of your teachers describe your talent instead.

You can also assemble an arts package which would include:
A resume with a brief statement of your artistic focus and listing your courses, grades, accomplishments, awards, exhibitions, art related travel experience
Your slides
A recommendation from an art instructor
Any pertinent magazine or newspaper articles (don’t overdo!)
If applicable, your short essay on “which EC means the most to me”

I have to agree with momrath on contacting each college. The common app. instructions in the supplement states to submit slides. Pretty expensive and out-moded. At Colby, when asked, my daughter's interviewer said it was fine to submit a cd or 8x10's. With slides, they don't project them, just view them on a light box. At Sarah Lawrence, they don't even want to receive any studio art work, in any format. They will view performing art submissions; dance, theatre, music.etc.

I actually happen to have the application for Bates right here at my desk, so I'll type up what they allow:

"If you choose to supplement your application with a performance recording, or slides or artwork, photography, etc., please complete this form and attach it to your material. If you are submitting work in more than one discipline, please attach a completed copy of this form to each submission.

If you wish to have work reviewed by the Art Department, please send 35mm slides only. Do not send portfolios or work in its original form. If you include more than one medium please send at least 10 slides, placed in a notebook-size plastic slide sheet. Material not submitted in this format cannot be reviewed."

One thing that might be useful; if one is to interview, is to bring 8 x10's with you to show the interviewer or member of the art department. Ideally, the images would match what you are submitting with the application.

If you're going to do that, you might as well bring a pointer and easel along, too.
