Does anyone have any stories of crazy/creative things that people/you have done for admission? I remember at one of the schools I took an information session at I was told that someone camped out on their main quad for four days to show their passion/commitment and they were eventually accepted to the University.

There was an article I read somewhere a while ago which talked about stupid things people did that didn't help them in the admissions office. One story was of a student who rode his bicycle up from southern California to Stanford to deliver his application by hand. I don't think he got in though....haha.

There was a girl who, though rejected from Stanford, decided not to tell anyone (including her parents) and instead to attend classes. She was caught after about a year, but somehow managed to take classes, live in a dorm, and make friends.

Ok, here's a better question: how the heck did she get away with that and how, after a year or so, did they realize she wasn't a student? And what did they do to her?

I've only heard the general things that admissions officers have said people have done. Like...

Sending a shoe to the office to get a "foot" in the door.

Writing "RICE" with rice on some paper and sending it in to Rice U. Ants got into the admissions office because of this or something.

I know I read a thread about this before...it was pretty amusing. :) I don't know where it was, it may have been in the Parents Forum (though watch it be in Search & Selection; I generally don't know what I'm talking about, it's all good.)

I heard a story, like third hand so dunno how accurate, at harvard one year they had an essay to describe courage in as few words as possible or something. Someone wrote, "go Yale" as their essay for that question and got accepted.

..then there's the one about a Stanford applicant who sent in a glove with a string tied around a finger with a note saying "don't forget about me"....
