I'm going into my senior year of hs and I want to major in creative writing. Right now, I'm looking at places like Knox College and Oberlin. Does anyone know the reputations/programs at these schools? Or any other factors that might help w/ my decision-making process? I know that both are good schools, and Knox is cheaper, but I don't know much about their writing programs, specifically where creative writing graduates go after college. Any info about campus and other factors would be great too.
Thanks!

Look at Bard, too.

You should post this on the Oberlin forum, because while it is known to have a strong department, the enrollment opportunities in upper level writing classes is very limited, as I recall reading on that forum.

Also, Denison (OH), Beloit (WI) and Grinnell (IA) are all strong in this area. Larger schools that are strong in this area also are Pittsburgh and Iowa.

I would add Bennington, Emerson, Sarah Lawrence, Kenyon, Sewanee, U Redlands, Warren Wilson, and Susquehanna to the above suggestions.

Among larger schools, Bowling Green State, Carnegie Mellon, Brown, Northwestern, Florida State, UNC, NC State, Michigan, Johns Hopkins, U Oregon, UVA, and SFSU have good undergraduate creative writing offerings.

Do you have a safety? Oberlin and Knox are both very good for writing, but they’re not cheap. Financial aid (and possibly merit aid) will make things cheaper, hopefully, but you need a college you can definitely get into and afford.
