I’m considering Brown as one of my top choices but I’m curious if Brown will consider my creative writing portfolio in its admissions process.

If they don’t, that’s pretty unfortunate for me.

If they do, I have several questions:

Who (at Brown) will be evaluating my CW portfolio?

How long/short should my CW portfolio ideally be?

How much of a role do you suppose it would play in the admissions process?

cheers, and thanks in advance for your replies.

The AO in my area told me she reads EVERYTHING, so Im assuming that your local admissions officer will read the portfolio. As for the people at Brown itself, I'm not sure.

I asked Brown about the importance of supplemental materials.

They said, supplemtal materials are not required and thus need not to be sended unless you believe you can compete in a very high level. They did not make admission decisions based on the excellence of supplemental materials.

Therefore, in my opinion, those supplemental materials play a very minor role in your application.

Anyway, if you believe your work is excellent, send it. Sending supplemental materials never hurts although it can hardly help.
