Daughter has been waitlisted at Kenyon. Is there any hope for her? Does anyone know if there is any selectivity to the waitlist, or does everyone who otherwise qualifies get this letter?

^^^I’d love to know that as well, as D2 also got the waitlist letter. I’m assuming that once Iowa sends their results out, a number of accepted Kenyon students will turn down Kenyon for Iowa.

So far I got into Kenyon and UVA, and I’m waiting on Iowa. I put Iowa as my first choice because I’ve heard it’s more prestigious and I’d like to study more than one genre, but if I don’t get in, I’m not sure whether to choose UVA or Kenyon. Any opinions from past participants? Is Kenyon really that much better-regarded than UVA?

(Don’t give up hope for the waitlist! If I get into Iowa, my spot will open up!)

Thanks tiger, congrats to you too! I applied to UVA too, and haven’t gotten an email, but either way I think I’d be happier at Kenyon. Do you know if just the acceptances were sent today?
To glorious and Rob, I’ve heard many stories of wait listed applicants getting spots after the acceptances have been received and decisions are made. I’m not sure about selectivity, but if you call they might help(:

To emerald- do you have any idea about the rejection policy for UVA, or if they’re even sent?

Nope, sorry. I know little to nothing about any of the processes! Congrats on Kenyon, though!

My D got accepted at Kenyon for Session one, too. She is very excited.

Thanks! And maybe I’ll see her there!

Has anyone heard from these programs? And, like barfly96, wondering about the rejection policies. Anyone familiar with either of these programs?

Thanks, and congratulations to those who’ve heard and good luck to all who haven’t, yet.

D2 went to Sewanee last year and loved it. I’m not home so I can’t check the paperwork for dates, but I believe they received about 500 applications for 60 spots.

Yeah, I got a regular mail acceptance packet from Sewanee a week ago, but I’ve called and given up my spot, so there’s one opening up!

My S was accepted to Kenyon and UVA. He’s thrilled. He’s waiting to hear back from Iowa and then will make his decision. My only concern is that he needs to send a deposit soon and may not hear from Iowa beforehand.

It would be great to get feedback from those of you who have attended these programs. I’m not sure how he’s going to choose which to attend…they all sound terrific.

I got my acceptance to Kenyon (session II)!
What exactly is the difference between Kenyon and Iowa? It seems that a lot of people are implying that Iowa has a better program. I was originally planning to apply to both programs, but I accidentally missed Iowa’s deadline… oops. Either way, I’m very excited for Kenyon :)

I don’t usually log in, but I thought I should let the CC community know what my decisions have been! I applied to three programs: Iowa, Sewanee, and UVA. (My mom wouldn’t let me apply to Kenyon because she doesn’t like Ohio, but I really would have liked to!) I was accepted at UVA, wait listed at Sewanee, and rejected at Iowa. Stephen did say, though, that he really liked my short story, which was a huge compliment considering that my main medium is poetry, and that I was very, very close.

It’s funny, because my parents are alums of Iowa and my mother is alumni of the program. My sister also attends Iowa, and they were SO excited at the thought of being accepted into the workshop! In the end, I wasn’t too disappointed considering how difficult it is to be accepted.

Good luck to all hearing from Iowa tomorrow! I’m looking forward to hearing all about your experiences. :)

beautifyyourname: How did you already hear from Iowa? I thought they were mailing out decisions today?

Congrats on UVA acceptance!

D: I need my Iowa letter now! I’m dying here. 3/4 so far, but Iowa’s my top choice. Keep the info coming from anyone who hears! And congrats to all those accepted so far, that’s great! :D

Hey guys! So, I’m a sophomore right now, and I applied to Sewanee, Iowa, and Alpha. So far, I’ve gotten into Sewanee and Iowa, and as much as I love writing fantasy and science fiction like they have at Alpha, I don’t know how I could possibly turn down Iowa
I have a few quick questions: Have any of you been to any of these program’s before? What was daily life like? Anything I should know before I go? And is anyone else planning on attending Iowa session 1 (because if so, we should most certainly meet up if that’s my final choice!)?

Bingo, did you already receive the Iowa letter which was sent yesterday? One of the programs my S has already gotten into wanted an answer by yesterday and another wants its deposit by April 10. He’d like to hear from Iowa before making his decision.

There was a problem with my application (namely, my teacher forgetting my recommendation), so my mom shot the director, Mr. Lovely, a nice email expressing our concern. He said not to fear, I’d already been accepted. He’s incredibly nice, so I would just send an email his way if I were you to explain the situation. I don’t think they’re fond of phone calls, but emails seem okay if you have a good reason to be sending them. Good luck to your son, and I hope to see him there!

Hi I’m super late to this, but I was recently rejected to the only program I applied to this summer and need serious help finding a new program to apply to! I’m a junior and I’m strong in English, the humanities, art history, and journalism. I can’t spend a mint on a summer program, so are there any ones left that I can still apply to? I’m open to merit-based programs, contests, and internships, too. I’d prefer if I didn’t have to send my SAT scores in. I am considering girl’s state for NJ, so if anyone knows about that please reply…
HELP ME I BEG OF YOU!
